The night was black with a strange presence about it. The air seemed stale, but a cool, swift breeze blew through the city, winding its way through the trees and buildings that surrounded the area. It may have been late, but there was still a fair amount of people moving along various paths and through different stores. Among those people was Kaige, who looked considerably better now then he had earlier in the day. Having left the forest to head on home to get ready for this so called 'date' with Salena, he had cleaned himself up and looked presentable to the world around him.
His golden mane of hair was no longer a disgusting tangled mess, being pulled back neatly for once and as usual, though a few strands hung alongside his face. He had cleaned out his cut and wrapped his arm up with white gauze to keep it from getting infected even though it had gone awhile without getting any attention. Hopefully he didn't end up getting some sort of disease, but that was the least of his worries then. He wore a pair of black cargo jeans this time and even added a shirt this time - just a simple plain white wife beater with a charcoal gray button up t-shirt thrown over that, unbuttoned. He thought about adding some sort of cologne but figured that would be overdoing it. This was just supposed to be a "friendly" kind of date after all.
It was strange going on a date, especially since it was with someone he knew. He hadn't been on one since becoming human, though he had hung out with a few girls here and there although it was nothing serious. None of them really caught his attention. They were all the same. He still didn't fully understand the concept of a date. He never had to do this sort of thing as a wolf. The human world was a strange place, but he was starting to enjoy it. Even though he would never admit it, he was partially looking forward to it. He wasn't sure why, but he was also feeling slightly nervous. What was there to worry about? He knew Salena, so there wasn't anything to worry about... right? He couldn't help but think back to the past and how she had disappeared. Was she even going to be there this time?
There was no time for negative thoughts. He needed to think positive for once, not before meeting up with her at the lake, he needed to stop at one of the shops. He was running low on cigarettes and a new pack was needed. He knew it was bad for him and that he should quit, but he couldn't help himself. It was a bad habit, a bad addiction. He had found a shortcut to a store he favored awhile back while wandering through the city before and turned off down a partial alleyway, if you could call it that, to pick up his smokes and maybe a few other things. If only his power could have shown him what was going to happen next.
It was dark down the narrow pathway, the lights from the city barely reaching the area. Luckily for Kaige, his night vision was a lot better than most normal humans. His combat boots echoed on the pavement as he walked with large strides. Taking a quick look around the alley, saw no one, then dropped his attention to digging out his pack of cigarettes. Might as well get one out of the way before he went off with Salena. He had the feeling she didn't like his little problem. He couldn't blame her. And that was where he made a terrible mistake - being distracted by something else instead of paying attention to his surroundings. Had he looked closely instead of being absorbed in his thoughts and cigarettes, he would have noticed a hooded person standing alongside the alley, hidden by the shadows.
As Kaige bent his head and placed the cigarette between his lips, the person, a burly looking man from the looks of his figure, stepped out from the shadows and began making his way toward the preoccupied Kaige. His intentions were not good. A moment later, after lighting his cigarette, Kaige noticed something standing in his way not too far ahead. He lifted his head and looked closer to see that it was a man. He slowed his pace down and narrowed his eyes. Something wasn't right about this guy. "You wanna move out of the way, buddy?" Kaige asked, his voice low and his tone neutral. There was no way getting around this guy - the alley was too narrow due to the city being in a densely packed forest.
The guy stood there and said nothing for a moment, then snickered and shook his head. "No, not really." His voice was menacing and Kaige could tell things weren't going to be pretty. "Look, guy, I've got somewhere I need to be, alright? Do me a favor and move on out of the way." There was no friendliness in Kaige's tone now. His gray eyes narrowed and his body tensed. The cigarette was still it, though it was burning down fast. The guy snickered again and moved his hands in the pockets of his hoodie. "How about you hand over your wallet and I'll let you go on by, no harm done." It was clear that this guy wasn't going to move anytime soon. He was set on getting what he wanted, but Kaige wasn't going to let that happen.
"Unfortunately for you, I don't have any cash on me. What a shame." It was an obvious lie, but lying was something Kaige had mastered over the years. He could only hope this guy would fall for it. The guy laughed loudly and shook his head. "You expect me to fall for that shit? I'm not that stupid." One hand moved in his pocket and he pulled out just slightly so the metal from the gun he was carrying would gleam in the very dim light. "Oh, so that's how you are?" Kaige asked, laughing loudly. He wasn't intimidated in the least. "You really think your little gun there is going to scare me into handing over my empty wallet?" The guy narrowed his eyes and closed the distance between the two of them.
"If you don't give me your fucking wallet, your brains, if you even have them, are going to be all over the ground." "If anyone lacks 'brains' around here, it's you, dumb ass. What part of I don't have any money on me don't you understand?" "I understand plenty. I understand that you're lying to me. Usually people hand over their shit and flee. You're obviously stupid." "Yeah, alright. I'm not the one who has to rob people to make a living. Yep, I'm really stupid." "You have until the count of three to give me your wallet or you're gonna meet your end." "Oh, no. I'm so scared. Like you're really going to pull the trigger on your little pistol. Get the fuck out of my way and go get a life." "One..." "Move..." "Two..." "Out of my fucking way..." "Three."
There was no time for Kaige to say anything else. In a flash, the guy pulled out his gun and pulled the trigger. The noise was deafening. He was confused at first, not completely sure what had just happened. He then felt an intense burning and stinging feeling. Looking down, he saw the crimson fluid staining the white wife beater, then making its way through the fabric to the shirt over that. He brought his hands up to his chest, clearly in shock, and touched the growing stain. The crimson liquid came through onto his fingers, warm and thick. He could hear his heart beating and see the world before him begin to slow down. His vision was growing fuzzy and his head felt light. He slowly fell to his knees, his hands clutching his chest, the guy who shot him no longer around. Everything started to go quiet and grow dimmer. He couldn't remember thinking as the world grew further away and the darkness took over. [/blockquote]

Salena bit her lip, standing at the edge of the water. A crudly place blanket was layed on the ground, and on top of that, a basket, nearly over flowing with food, especially meat. Everything was set up, but she had gotten there early. She wanted to make sure she had time to think about things.
Over head, the moon cast its calming glow about the forest. Very faint rustling could be heard coming from the forest in the distance, and once again, she was thankful to have gotten out of that forest alive. Knowing that the forest was littered in man eating bugs made her skin crawl.
Patiently, she looked out over the water at her reflection. Her hair had been neatly brushed, but it was still just as thin and frizzy as ever. The sloppy curls in her hair gave it the appearence of never have been brushed. What was the point? Atleast now she was clean. She still didn't have a home to live in... she kept to herself just outside the city, but she managed to sneak down to a creek to wash up.
She wore the same, black strapless top as before, but a small, fashionable jacket had been thrown over top. It didn't warm her up any, but atleast it gave her that "I'm on a date" kind of look... sort of. And she wore the same, skin tight, yet flexible jeans that she was always seen wearing, complete with holes in the knees. And on her feet, she wore... nothing. The grass was moist, and she always hated wearing shoes. Even if this was a date, she was going bear foot.
The time ticked by slowly. Salena watched as fish leapt out of the water, hearing the plops as they hit the surface. A crisp wind blew through. The weather was beautiful... the sky was clear, and filled with stars. This city truly was a marvel... absolutely stunning, and beautiful. It was no wonder they kept it hidden and safe. It was Eden.
After a while, Salena could feel herself getting bored. She bent over and traced Kaige's name in the sand with her finger, misspelling it, as she usually did with everything. The wind brought tiny waves onto the bank, washing her toes and sending silent chills up her body. She wasn't sure how long she had been waiting there, but the steam that was once rising from the freshly cooked foods had long vanished. The food was getting cold, and Salena was starting to worry.
"Kaige..." She whispered, a little sadly. She caught sound of a flutter behind her, and she quickly covered the word in the sand. When she turned around, she discovered that it had been nothing but a small finch, gathering some twigs for its nest. She watched it flutter by, then return to its home in the tree.
How late was it getting? Already, she could hear the worried hoots of owls nearby. She sat down on the blanket and criss-crossed her legs, wriggling her cold toes. By now, the food in the basket was getting stone cold. And Kaige still wasn't there.
Salena put her head in her hands, and to her surprise, she began sobbing.
She had tried not to think too much, until, all at once, her emotions got the best of her. 'He isn't coming...' She thought to herself, causing her tears to stream quicker. She should have realized this would happen... he was just paying her back. She knew things were getting too good to be true. Kaige still hated her- what better way to cause her more pain than to get her hopes up, then just not show up.
Salena lifted her head to the path that lead out of the city. Maybe it was time to leave... She could run away, and never come back. She would force herself to forget about the jerk, maybe find a new love, start a new family... or just die. Dying sounded like fun right now. She grabbed at the rubber band on her wrist, and snapped it, hard. Then she snapped it again, and again, until she finally found herself calming down. Rubber bands hurt just as much as cutting, but they left behind much less scars.
Now that she had cleared her head, atleast a bit, it was time to think. She thought back to earlier. Kaige was never the kind of person to seek revenge. Well, not this way anyhow. It was possible that he just decided not to show up... but she couldn't just assume that. After all, Kaige had been in the same boat numerous times. Each time, something had happened to Shinrin-
Salena clasped her hands over her mouth to avoid gasping in air. What if something had happened to Kaige? She bit her lip, conflicted. How could she know? She stood up and began pacing, slowly leaving behind a trench in the sand. Kaige was strong. He would be fine. There was no need to worry about him getting hurt, right? Right. So why did she feel so worried?
Salena made an angered face, though it was directed to herself, and to the decisions she was about to make... She lifted her eyes to the sky. Above her, stars twinkled. How marvelous stars were... so many light years away. The light from the stars takes a long time to get to earth, and because of that, when the light hits the earth, it is a reflection of the future. Salena was born with the amazing ability to read those stars... to see a future that they had predicted. Ofcourse, it was usually random, and she hadn't tested her ability in... fifty years? Atleast...
She concentrated hard, her eyes focusing on one particular star. How she hated this ability... the future the stars predicted had so far been nothing but trouble. She strained her eyes until they hurt. Then faintly, just barely, she could see an image dance its way onto the star's light...
She had caught just a glimpse of the future, but it had been enough. She quickly turned her gaze away from the stars, her eyes in terrible pain. Apparently, since turning human, her powers were not what they used to be... She wiped away a bloody tear, then turned and ran towards the city, leaving behind a picnic basket of food and what almost was a perfect date.
By the time she finally made it back into the city, she arrived to the scene too late. She cursed to herself. She was so much slower with just two legs...
She tried to think back to the vision she had captured. She had seen Kaige... lying in the alley... blood had coated him. She could still see the blood on the wooden path below her feet... then there had been a man. A crime guard? Did this mean Kaige had been hurt by somebody else? Crime was rare in the city... why had it chosen Kaige? Why on this night? And why had Kaige been out here? Was he planning on ditching her anyway? Were both her assumptions correct?
"DAMN YOU!" She cursed out loud, though it was not meant for Kaige. She was angry with herself. Now wasn't the time for this. If Kaige was injured, and the guards had been there, he would have been moved, either to the hospital to be healed, or... no, she didn't want to even imagine that.
She made her way towards the hospital. She didn't run, mainly for the reason that she was already out of breath, but she walked very quickly. Luckily, the wooden hospital building came into sight fairly quickly, and she marched herself inside. When she got to the front counter, she threw her arms over it, catching the rest of her breath. "Kaige...Omen...Star..." She said through gasps of air. The woman at the counter examined the paper lists, then frowned, shaking her head. "No Kaige Omenstar here."
What? Salena bit her lip. This wasn't good. "What do you mean he isn't here?!" She sounded frantic. Probably a little more frantic than she should have, but it wasn't fair... for her to finally have a somewhat good day, then find herself in this kind of situation. "Long, dirty blonde hair, tied in a rubberband?! Grey eyes?! OH COME ON!" She freaked. The nurse frowned. "Oh... you mean John Dear. A young man was recently admitted for a gun shot wound... guns. Why this city allows such a monstrocity fom Nain Taiyou, I will never know."
"Then, he is here?!" Salena asked again, slamming her hands onto the counter. "Where?! Where is he?! How is he?! Is he-" The nurse tried to calm her down. "Miss, miss. please, settle down. The patient has not come to yet, but he is alive. The doctors are expecting him to recover... Kaige Omenstar is his name?" She emmediately began raking through records. "Can I see him?" Salena asked, but the woman ignored her, checking her papers for the patient's name.
"CAN I SEE HIM?!" Salena barked once more, more of an order than a question. The woman behind the counter stopped in her tracks, and frowned. "Well, he is in very serious condition... only family members are allowed to-"
"I'm his sister." Salena interupted. She hated lying. Infact, she very, very rarely ever lied. But this seemed more important than keeping her morals at the time.
The woman behind the counter put her papers down, and glanced down the hallway. "The patient is down the hall... Room 11. The doctor will escort you-"
But before she had time to finish, Salena was already down the hall way. She stood infront of the door, labelled with a giant eleven, and put her hand on the knob. She slowly opened it, and poked her head inside.
Salena had never seen a hospital, and by the looks of it, she never wanted to be admitted to one. She spotted Kaige, asleep-hopefully- in his bed. There were bandaged wrapped around him. She could watch his chest rise and fall, and could see the blood being pumped into his veins. A doctor caught her staring and called her inside. Nervously, she took a step inside.
"Are you family to this patient?" He asked, and Salena nodded. "I'm his... sister..." She repeated, slowly walking up to him. He seemed so weak... so... close to death. It was horrifying. "Doctor, is... is he going to be alright?" The doctor smiled. "We are doing everything we can for him.
She hated it when people wouldn't give her a straight answer.

The world was dark. Everywhere he looked, everywhere he turned, it was dark. It was welcoming in a way, but he had seen the darkness before in different aspects. He didn't want it; not this time. He could see nothing but darkness, nothing but shadows that danced across his closed eyelids. He could hear things, but it was only every now and then and the words were mixed up together like a tossed salad; they meant nothing to him. He could remember what happened just moments ago, but barely. He had no idea where he was now. He didn't even know if he was alive. All he knew was the darkness.
The doctor continued moving throughout the room, hovering over the various machines hooked up to the unconscious body belonging to Kaige. The machines beeped monotonously and the IVs hooked up to his veins pumped fluids in to keep him going. The doctor wrote something down on the chart, then turned back to Salena. "I'm not making any promises, but he'll hopefully make a full recovery." He turned his attention back to the chart, scribbled something else down, then looked back up to her. "He was shot between the collarbone and shoulder-blade. While that may seem like nothing, it's not. There's a vein there, one that's somewhat important, called the subclavian vein. The bullet ruptured it and the victim here as lost a considerable amount of blood." The doctor paused again and moved to the machines to make a few adjustments.
"We've removed the bullet and patched up the wound as best we could. Only time can tell what will happen next." He smiled, though there was no emotion behind it. "I'll leave you be now." With that, he gave a brief nod, muttered something about having to go off to another patient and left the room, closing the door quietly behind him. There hadn't been much else to say. They had done what they could and there were no straight answers as to whether or not Kaige would make it at all. One could only hope.
Kaige had heard voices, though they were muffled, and felt a presence. One or two, he didn't know how many people were there, but he could tell someone was around. He felt it and the presence was strong. He fought to open his eyes, trying as best he could but to no avail. He could feel himself slipping back into the darkness, the beeping from the machines and the voices from before seeming further and further away. The darkness enveloped him and took over once more. It angered her. Just how much the doctor... didn't care. It was all business to him. Kaige could die, and he would still go home to his happy family, and tell corny jokes to his wife and children. She hated that.
Nervously, she approached Kaige. So, he was in some sort of coma? She place her hand weakly on his arm. It was a bit chilly to the touch, unlike the warmth she had felt early that morning in the forest. The machines around her sickened her, and she wanted so badly to rip Kaige free from them, and get the hell out of there, but she knew he needed to stay. He needed to stay, and he needed to get better. He had to. There was no choice about it...
Salena hated hospitals. To her keen senses, she could smell each santized piece of equipment, as well as the old man next door. She could hear the nurses joking down the hall, as well as the constant, extremly annoying blipping coming from the machines. It was enough to drive her insane.
She bit her lip, then began sobbing again. She hated it... crying all the time. But it was just one of those things she could not help. It was like a twitch. "Kaige..." She whispered. This day had been so crazy, she didn't even want to think anymore.
"Kaige, wake up." She mumbled, taking a deep breath. She put her hand to his head. Even there, he was chilly. He had lost soo much blood... it probably wouldn't have been so bad if he hadn't been injured that morning. This had all been her fault... it was her fault that he got hurt earlier, and it was her fault that he had left, and been stabbed, then.
She put her head down on his arm, still sobbing, but silently. She tried not to let the tears stain his sheets. "I'm so sorry Kaige... I didn't know you would get hurt... I just... " She lifted her head and softly brushed her hand against his cheek. "I'm here Kaige..." She bit her lip. Was he going to be OK?
(ok, sorry bout the short n crappy post, but I had to go to bed! DX so tired! I almost didnt post at all xD )

The black abyss that had Kaige trapped in its grip had not faded. It held him still, stronger than before. He could no longer here the persistent beeping of the machines that were hooked up to him, monitoring his heart beat and other vital organs. He could no longer hear the muffled voices belonging to those who fluttered about the hospital. He could no longer feel the presence of anyone or anything that may have been around him before. There was nothing but the ominous darkness that lingered with him, a darkness that was full of surprises, a darkness that had nothing good in store.
One moment it was dark, nothing but a blackness that kept Kaige in a void between the afterlife and earth. The next moment it was light. Everything was blindingly bright, a white light filling the room in which he stood in. As his eyes adjusted to the light, he found that he was standing in a hospital room. He had been in one before and had recognized it, but he had no recollection of why he was there. He scanned the room briefly, the bed neatly made as if it had never been touched. Chairs placed against the walls, machines silent and off in the corner. There was no one around. He had no idea why he was there. Had something happened to him? Had something happened to someone he knew? If that were the case, why wasn't anyone around? Why was the room so empty?
"Kaige!" The voice came from somewhere outside the room, but it rang clear as a bell to him. He stepped over to the one window in the room, pulled the curtains back, and looked outside. No one was there. In fact, it seemed like no one was around for that matter. His gray eyes scanned over the courtyard outside the window, narrowing slightly to adjust to the brightness that was outside. If this was a hospital, where was everyone? Even if it was just a courtyard, there was usually at least one or two people outside, sitting on one of the benches, usually a nurse taking a smoke break or something of the sort. Confusion started to take over in his mind.
"KAIGE!" There it was again, that same voice, although this time it was louder. Kaige whipped around and turned to the door. It had to be coming from out in the hall. It wasn't coming from outside, so that was the only answer left. He quickly walked over to the door and yanked it open. The hallway was blindingly white like the room he was in. The walls were white. The tile was white. Even the doors were some sort of off-white color. It was almost maddening. As his eyes adjusted to the florescent lights that reflected off the walls, he saw a figure standing at the end of the hallway. He began taking a few steps forward, both wary and curious as to who was calling his name. When he could finally make out who it was, he stopped in his tracks. There was no way it was possible.
"God, you always were kind somewhat hard of hearing, always off in your own little world." The voice was soft and angelic, just as Kaige had remembered it to be from years ago when he was still a wolf, just a young one growing up. "Larka?" Kaige asked, sounding dumbfounded. He had no idea how his younger sister, the one he favored the most, was here. There she was, standing in front of him just a few yards away, but as a human and not a wolf. She may have been a human, but he still recognized her. Petite body, soft features, long lilac colored hair and matching eyes. "I don't.. I don't get it," Kaige said, still confused. "What are you doing here?"
Larka giggled and brought her small hands up to her mouth, looking at Kaige with wide, innocent eyes. "It's a surprise!" she said, smiling widely behind her hands. "So follow me!" She turned on her feet, long hair whipping out behind her, and skipped off down the hall. Kaige quickly followed from behind, leaving a slight gap in between the two. "What surprise? What's going on?" he asked, watching her curiously. He hadn't the slightest clue of what was going on. The hallway was still bright, but there wasn't a trace of anyone else around. If this was a hospital, wasn't there supposed to be people around? It seemed like a ghost town here. He found it strange, but he didn't dwell on it.
"It wouldn't be a surprise if you knew, you dummy," Larka called out in a sing-song voice, still skipping down the hall, quickly taking a turn down another. "Just shut up and follow me. Sheesh!" She giggled again, twirling a strand of hair around a skinny finger. Kaige shook his head and laughed quietly to himself. This was definitely how he remembered her to be. She was the favorite of his siblings. He remembered the day the attack had happened. He remembered finding his father and a few siblings of his, along with numerous pack members, dead. Larka was one of those. Finding her mangled body among the masses of others was something he would never forget.
Having been lost in his thoughts and mindlessly following her through various hallways, Kaige shook himself back to reality, or to what he figured was reality, and took a look around. It was no longer horribly bright and white. The walls were splotchy and charcoal in color as if they had been burned. The tile had the same appearance. Paint was chipping and tiles were peeling. Carts that held needles and other various objects were turned over, its contents scattered all over the rotting floor. Lights flickered and buzzed, turning off one by one. Larka was no longer around. The air grew chilly and darkness began to swarm through the area, though it was different from the darkness he had been in before.
Malicious laughter filled the air and slow footsteps echoed in the pitch black hall. Kaige's body tensed and his heart began to beat faster. That laughter sounded familiar, but he wasn't sure about it. Maybe he was imagining it. Maybe he was imagining all of it. Yes, that was it. This was all just a bad dream he was having and he would wake up any moment in his bed at home, hidden away in the forest. But at the same time, he knew this wasn't a dream. This was all a reality, a reality that was taking place in his mind.
"Kaige Maverick Omenstar." The voice was deep, cold and malicious. It spoke slowly as the footsteps grew closer. Lights flickered on and off weakly, showing a tall shadowed figure making its way down the hall. The footsteps stopped. The voice caused the blood in Kaige's veins to run cold. He did know that voice. He knew that voice very well. "Thanatos," Kaige snarled, balling his hands up into fists. He had thought he had taken care of him years ago, back when he was a wolf. Back when Thanatos was a wolf. Thanatos laughed, his malevolent laughter filling the hallway, bouncing off the rotting walls. "What's that? You really thought you could get rid of me, the god of death?" His laughter grew louder and it was maddening. It drowned out the thoughts going through Kaige's mind and caused him to feel an intense amount of pain.
"It may have taken me awhile, dear Kaige, but you cannot escape me..." Thanatos' laughter quieted and an eerie silence fell across the hall. A light flickered on, though it was weak, and stayed lit, revealing the demon that stood just a few feet away. He was much taller in his human form. Pearly black horns sprouted from either side of his head. His flesh was pale and clammy looking with visible veins that popped out. His body was muscular, much more than Kaige. His eyes were blacker than the darkness itself, piercing through any soul they sought out. Brilliantly large, black bat-like wings sprouted from his back, taking up a fair amount of room. Fingernails that were more like claws sprouted from his fingers that were wrapped around the glowing scythe he held in one hand. "Not even in death..."
The two stood before each other, staring the other down. There was no contest here - Kaige would easily be beaten, but that wasn't going to keep him from trying if Thanatos had plans in store for him. And with that thought, Thanatos laughed again. "You can try all you want, but you'll never defeat me." His voice was a low, malicious whisper. He took a step forward and place the scythe to his side. "I can do things you can't even dream about. I'll try to make this quick and painless, but I make no promises..." Thanatos smiled, revealing the blood stained fangs that hid behind his crimson lips. "You will cease to exist after I'm done with you. There will be no coming back. Not this time."
Kaige froze, his body rigid. He was no longer in control. He could do nothing but stand there like a mindless puppet. His heart beat quickened, and back in the real world, the machines began to beep wildly with it. He had no idea what was going to happen. He couldn't even think for himself - Thanatos now had full control over him. "You were a fool to think you could kill me," Thanatos said, now just a foot away from where Kaige stood. "How dumb could you be?" Thanatos shook his head and placed a cold hand atop Kaige's head. "Well... from reading your thoughts... obviously very dumb." Thanatos laughed wildly and Kaige cringed, feeling the pain coursing through his body. He bit down on his tongue hard enough he tasted blood. He would not give Thanatos the pleasure of hearing him scream in agony.
"Putting on the brave act, are you?" Thanatos asked, shaking his head. "How bland." With hardly a push, he sent Kaige flying back, slamming into a wall. Kaige could feel the wind being knocked out of him as he made contact. He felt dizzy, but he wasn't going to go out that easily. "You're nothing but scum," he managed to wheeze as he fought to push himself back up. "I'm not afraid of you." Thanatos snickered and walked over to where Kaige was, picking him up by the hair. "I never said you had to be," he whispered, pushing him back up against the wall. "Now look into my eyes and everything that's happened to you and everything you've done." Kaige turned his head away, muttering something under his breath. Thanatos sighed and shook his head. "You really should listen to me," he said as he grabbed Kaige's face and forcefully lined it up with his.
There was nothing Kaige could do now. He could only stand there helplessly as memories, both good and bad, played out before his eyes. He could feel the pain surging through his veins, an intense burning feeling taking over. He wouldn't show that he was in pain though. No, that was not happening and Thanatos could see it. With an exasperated sigh, he stopped and stood there silently for a moment, just staring back at Kaige. "You're boring me." With a sudden movement, he raised his arm and pushed his hand into Kaige's chest, wrapping his hand around the already weak heart. "I'm done with you. Sleep well, Kaige.... in hell." In the world of his mind, Kaige gasped, gray eyes wide as he could feel his heart slowing down and then stopping. The world was black again.
In the real word, the machines picked up on his no longer beating heart and they went into a frenzy. His heart was done. [/blockquote]

The quickening beeps from the machines alarmed Salena. She eyed the machine, trying to understand what the lines were for, what the beeping was for. She hated not knowing. She hated standing there, helplessly.
She shook him slightly, hoping to awake him. Then the machine went blank, and a steady blip sounded from it. It was deafening, and she had a terrible, terrible feeling about it. "Kaige!" She snapped, quite loudly. She grabbed his hand. A terrible feeling traveled up to her head, and she began to see flashes of images, all from her past. One terrible image after another...
Painfully, she watched each death she had witnessed in the past reoccur, she watched horrifying things pass before her eyes-then one, very quick memory of Kaige. It was a happy memory, trapped in a sea of misery. Then the pain continued, and Salena was forced to let go of his hand.
She pulled away in shock, the pain burning through her hand. Her heartbeat quickened in fear. What was happening to Kaige?! She looked around the room until she spotted a large red button. Instinctively, she ran to it, slamming her palm against it. No doctors came, not emmediately anyway. What the hell was taking them so long?!
She ran back to Kaige's side, glancing down at him with incredible fear. She wanted to hold his hand, to remind him that she was still there, but she was also afraid of what she would feel... what she would see. She glared to herself. Her whole life had been nothing but misery. The only time she had ever been happy was when she was with Kaige, and now, she was about to lose that too...
She grabbed hold of Kaige's hand, squeezing tightly. She couldn't feel his pulse, and the gentle rise and fall of his chest had stopped. She could feel his hand turning cold, but at the same time, it felt hot-burning, but she refused to let go. She place her other hand on his chest, above where the heart should be. Everything felt... empty. What the hell was going on?
"Kaige..." She spoke, tears beginning to stream down her face. "Kaige, please don't die." She thought about the feather in her hair... it was her last life. If she gave it to him, he would live, hopefully. She remembered how she had saved him last time-he had been furious. Would he be angry with her if she did it again? She supposed it wouldn't matter... after all, she'd be dead...
"Kaige, I'll do anything." She sobbed, her tears falling onto his chest. "I can't... I can't live if you're gone. But if I let you live... then you could start over. You could finally get over me, for good. Maybe this is why we are here together. So I can save you..."
She let her hand off his heart, and stroked the feather in her hair. "I can't let you die Kaige... I just... can't." She sobbed. "I love you too god damned much!"

It was dark, but there was light. A bright light like before streamed through Kaige's closed eyelids. He didn't want to open them, unsure of where he would wake up, but he knew he had to. When he did, he found that he was staring up at a brilliant blue sky with puffy, cottony looking clouds floating there, still as the world around him. A warm breeze blew over, sending a few strands across of hair across his face. He felt the ground beneath him, noting that it was somewhat hard. He had no idea where he was, no idea what had happened, no idea what was going on. Was he dead or alive? Was this reality or was it a dream?
Pushing himself up on his elbows, he raised his head and took a look around. He was in a meadow somewhere, a meadow that seemed strangely familiar. The grass was lush and green. Trees were covered in bright green leaves. Flowers were in bloom throughout the clearing and a calm stream flowed through the center, it's trickling water filling the air with sound. Kaige pushed himself to a sitting position and took a look over. There were no scars, no battle wounds, no nothing on him. There was no previous signs of anything that had happened to him. He looked to be perfect, but he knew something was up. Something wasn't right about this.
Meanwhile, back in reality, doctors and nurses rushed into the room, their chatter chaotic. "Hurry up and get the defibrillator!" one doctor yelled to a nurse, who hurriedly rushed out of the room to fetch the instrument. Another doctor pushed by Salena and began to tear at the fabric covering Kaige's chest to begin the setup. The nurse rushed back in with the instrument needed and handed it over to the doctor. A few other doctors fussed with the machines in the room, jotting things down on paper. "Miss, you're going to have to stand back and stay out of the way," the one doctor said to Salena as he got the device ready to go. "Get hit with one of these things and you'll feel a pretty nasty shock." With the paddles charged, the doctor sprang into action.
Back in his own little world, Kaige was wandering around the meadow, trying to figure out where he knew it from. No memories came to mind and it was beginning to frustrate him. With an irritated sigh, he dropped to the ground beneath him and brought his hands up to either side of his head, staring down at the ground. He didn't know what was going on and he was starting to hope it would all be over soon. He was tired of this. "Kaige..." There was another voice. However, there was no figure around like the last time. He looked around, both cautious and ready for a fight. "Haven't you had your fun yet? Aren't you done?" Kaige growled, assuming it was Thanatos in disguise again.
"This is not who you think it is, Kaige," the voice continued, sounding like it was far away. "You don't remember this place, do you?" the voice asked. "You used to play here a lot when you were just a pup." The voice went silent after that. Kaige looked around, eyes narrowed in confusion. "What...?" It took him a moment, but then he remembered. The voice was right - he did enjoy this place when he was a wolf, but how did it know? And then it dawned on him. "Mom?" he asked, looking around in bewilderment. There was no way she could be around - she had died. What did that mean for him?
"That's right," she said in response to his question. "You're.. well, the only way to say it is, you're dead right now, Kaige. Your heart stopped." She stopped speaking for a moment and Kaige frowned. "So... this is it then? I'm just... I'm just... done?" he asked, not sure what to think. He wasn't even sure why was just a little upset about all of this. He had welcomed death before. He used to want it, but now... something was different. He didn't know what it was and if she could read his thoughts, his mother spoke again. "You're always were special, Kaige," she said, sounding even further away, "And I would like to see you again, but right now... it's not your time. You still have things to do..."
Back in the room, the doctors had been working on Kaige for more than they should have. "This isn't working!" one called out while another stepped forward with a clipboard. "Think we should call it?" he asked, looking to the doctor with the defibrillator. The doctor gave it one more go, but there was nothing. The doctor nodded. "I'm sorry, miss, but we've done what we can. He's not coming back." The other doctor looked at the clock. "Time of death 4:17 in the morning." The doctor jotted it down on the paper and started to talk to the others about getting Kaige's lifeless body transported out of the room.
But amongst the chaos, the machine hooked up to monitor Kaige's heartbeat began to come to life. It was a quiet little beep, then silence. Another beep, then more silence. This continued for another minute or so and didn't show signs of stopping. It was feeble and weak, but his heart was beating. [/blockquote]

Salena had felt as if her own heart had stopped in those few, quiet seconds. The doctors had finally come, but just as usual, they were useless. She had been shoved aside like she was just some hungry puppy. This was Kaige they were all talking about.
4:17... the number burned its way into her skull. She stood, completely frozen and in total shock. How was this even possible? Why had all this happened? What was the point in making her fall in love with him again, just to watch him die?
She couldn't even cry. She could feel the burning pain whelling up, but no tears came. Her mouth agape, she seemed dead, frozen, almost like a statue. In those few seconds, everything that had been haunting her mind had stopped.
She had to give him the feather... she needed to bring him back. Even if it meant death for her... It was better to lose her love then die, than to lose her love and live. All she could think about was her own death. Would she just vanish, as though she never even exsisted? Would it hurt? It was hard to believe that it was all going to end here...
Then through the chaos, she heard a beep. It was faint, almost indistinct, but each time the beep returned, it seemed louder. She turned her eyes to the machine. There was a tiny spike in its readings... Then another, and another. She blinked, and the tears that had been held prisoner in her eyes were released in an explosion of emotion.
"KAIGE!" She shreiked, nearly knocking over the doctor who had dares to call time on his death. She grabbed hold of his hand tightly, clinging to him as though if she were to loosen her grip, she would lose him forever.
In a way, she hoped he wouldn't wake up just yet. She didn't want him to see her in such... pathetic condition. But she would thank the maker for bringing him back! How he was still alive, she didn't know, and honestly, she didn't care. All that mattered is that he was alive. Nothing else seemed important. She almost didn't even notice the doctors behind her.
"Kaige Omenstar, you are such an ass." She sobbed jokingly.

"Take care of yourself Kaige..."
And with that, the meadow vanished before him and the darkness surrounded him once more. He could hear voices, ones that he didn't recognize. "That's a shocker," he heard someone say. "Scratch that. Looks like things are getting better here." Another voice, another unfamiliar person. "We're going to have to keep an eye on this one just to make sure." He could hear something beeping and something buzzing. All the noise was starting to aggravate him. Why couldn't he get some peace and quiet? He almost wished he was still dead.
"Alright, we've got him stabilized," he heard someone say over the noise. "Still appears to be unconscious, but his heart is beating." Kaige came to the assumption that he was in a hospital. It made sense. He could feel the presence of doctors and nurses, specifically the one poking and prodding him to hook him back up to the various machines and IVs. "Just go away...," he thought or assumed he thought. He may have said it out loud, but if he had, none of the doctors or nurses heard him. The poking and prodding finally stopped and the room seemed to be emptying out - or so it felt. "Alright, everyone clear out. We're good to go." And with that, the remaining doctors and nurses went out the door, closing it quietly behind them.
Kaige could feel the atmosphere of the room calm down and in his partially unconscious state of mind, he relaxed. He could feel someone still in the room, someone holding his hand. He didn't know who it was. It was obvious this person wasn't a doctor or a nurse. He attempted to move his hand in an effort to get a feel for who it was, but his attempts were useless. Who was it? He went through his mind, trying to think of who it would be. He hadn't exactly made any acquaintances with anyone since becoming human. He wasn't a buddy-buddy time of guy. He knew it couldn't be some random stranger. Who was crazy enough to sit in some room with someone they didn't know?
And then it dawned on him. Salena? She was the only person he really knew, but he couldn't remember everything that had happened. He remembered running into her again, not knowing it was really her, then finding out. He remembered arguing with her, then making up, then things being... strange, to say in the least. He couldn't remember anything that had happened right before the accident occurred. Were the supposed to meet somewhere? If that was the case, he felt somewhat bad. Not showing up, making her worry... and now he was here, unable to let her know he was alright, though he was trying as best he could.
It felt like he was winning a losing battle with the darkness. He wasn't sure how long he had been out, but he was tired of seeing it. He could hear and feel people around him, but why couldn't he see them? He wanted to be able to move, to say something. Anything instead of just laying here like a lifeless body. Anger was starting to get the best of him. What had he done to deserve this? He didn't think he was that bad of a guy. He had his moments, yes, but did that mean he needed to be shot and now stuck in limbo in a hospital? He could feel himself tensing up in his state of mind, though he had no idea if this had any effect on his body. Irritation began to flood throughout his body. He had had enough.
And then, just like that, he could see the light hanging above him. [/blockquote]

Salena felt the room get quiet, and she noticed that all the doctors had left the room. The sound of Kaige's breathing was a welcoming friend. She didn't even mind the beeping anymore. At least it meant he was alive... for the time being. Hopefully, things would stay that way.
Her tears finally dried up, and everything became a waiting game. She stood by his side, still too afraid to let go of his hand. Carefully, she reached a hand up and touched his cheek. The color was returning to his face, and she could finally feel warmth coming from his skin.
She hated seeing him like this; weak, frail, so close to dying... again. Even the slightest bump could easily have sent him into another episode. She tried being very gentle with him, ofcourse, that was never hard for Salena to do. She wasn't exactly a violent person, well, most of the time.
Then, she could see... movement? Were his eyes fluttering open? She snatched her hand away from his face, but held onto his hand. "Kaige..." She whispered, trying not to send him into shock. "Kaige, oh my god." She bit her lip, a bad habit of hers. "Ca-can you hear me?"

Everything was bright just like it had been in the events that took place in his mind. The walls were horribly white, the light was too bright. It was too much to take in. His eyes narrowed against the brightness of it all and squeezed shut for a moment, but opened again shortly. He inhaled sharply, feeling a slight surge of pain in the upper part of his chest. Another scar to add to the collection. At least he'd have any interesting story to tell, though he still couldn't quite remember what all had happened.
He could see that the person beside him was indeed Salena. Maybe she knew what happened, but maybe she didn't. He tried to move his head to face her, but found it unreasonably hard to do so. He heard her speaking and wanted to reply, to let her know he could hear her, but speaking seemed impossible as well. He was awake, he knew he was, but he could do nothing. It was like he was stuck in a broken body. He could do nothing but stare at the ceiling like a lifeless corpse, only he was breathing. He could feel his heart beating, though it was weak and barely going. Every time he breathed in, he could feel a sharp pain. It was starting to become unbearable.
He wanted to speak, to do something, anything, that would let Salena know things would be alright. Of course, he himself had no idea if things would get better. He could end up not making it through all of this, but then he remembered his mother's words. It wasn't his time. If it wasn't his time, why couldn't he do anything? Was he really not awake? Was this all some sort of joke? He tried with everything in his power to at least move his hand, a finger, something, but he didn't know what was happening. He could see in the corners of his eyes the fuzzy blackness creeping its way back over. The darkness was making its way back to him and there was nothing he could do but lay there.
And just as quickly as he had seen the light, the black abyss captured him once again. [/blockquote]

Salena frowned as she watched his eyes shut once more. She was hoping he was awakening... but now she was afraid he could be drifting back into his coma. She sighed, laying her head down on his arm. She gently stroke his hand. "Come on Kaige... wake up..." She softly pleaded.
"Ma'am?"
Salena could hear the nurse's voice behind her. She lifted her head to look at her, sadness and fear in her eyes. "Ma'am, you should probably let him rest."
Salena looked back over to Kaige, and stared down at their hands. Regretfully, she pulled her hand away. The nurse was right... but that still didn't make it any easier. "We have chairs... if you'd like to stay and wait." She motioned to the chairs that rested beside the wall. Salena sighed, and slowly walked over to them, but she waited to sit.
The nurse checked all of Kaige's vital signs, then frowned. When she noticed Salena's terrified face, she smiled. She guessed that was a nurse's way of saying, "things aren't good, but atleast they aren't worse." She watched as the nurse grabbed a clipboard off the wall and jotted a few things down. "Do you need anything? Water? A light snack?" The nurse asked Salena.
Salena shook her head. "Erm... no thanks." She didn't have an appetite at the moment. The nurse nodded, then returned the clipboard, and left the room without another word. Salena sighed and sat herself in the chair sideways. She pulled her knees up to her chest, balling herself up on the chair. Atleast it was somewhat comfortable...
She looked over to Kaige and shook her head, still unbelieving that this had all happened. She rested her head on her arm, but kept her eyes on Kaige and the machines that were now so carefully attached to him, just incase anything changed. After a bit of time had gone by, she found her eye lids getting heavier, and heavier, until eventually, she drifted off into a light, worried sleep.

There was nothing that came with this darkness. He couldn't hear anyone speaking. He couldn't feel anyone's presence. He couldn't get a sense of what was going on. There was nothing and he had nothing. He was alone, left to his thoughts and unanswered questions. How long was this going to continue? If his mother was right and it really wasn't his time, why was he stuck in this state? It wasn't fair. He didn't want this anymore. He wanted to be able to move. He wanted to be able to speak. He wanted to be able to see. But the darkness was grim and had its grip on him. It wasn't going to let him go that easily.
It had been a week. A nurse came in to do her daily rounds of checking Kaige's vitals and other things, though the doctors didn't have a lot of hope for him. There was no telling when he would awaken from his coma, or if he even would. They could only wait. Unfortunately, since he had no real family, there was a chance they could pull the plug if things didn't start to look better soon. It may have seemed unfair, but it was a harsh reality. The nurse finished up her tasks, scribbling things down on the clipboard, then hustled out of the room without paying the slightest attention to Salena. Everyone was used to seeing her there by now.
Kaige was still trapped in the darkness. He felt alone, but he was slowly growing used to it. He thought about his life, his family, the few friends he had made. He thought about the hundreds upon hundreds of mistakes he had made. He thought about his attitude towards others. They say you weren't supposed to regret doing any of the things you'd done throughout your life, but he couldn't help wishing he had done things better or differently. There was no way of changing the past, but he could try and make the future better. After all, his mother did say he still had things to do.
His thoughts then drifted to Salena. How strange it was that they were both now human and had run into each other again, just like they had before in their previous lives. There was no way it was all just one big coincidence. It had to be one thing and one thing only, and that was fate. Maybe this was their chance to start over, to make things better. The memories from before still lingered and there was still a little bit of doubt. He couldn't guarantee anything right away and it would take some time to trust her, but he could try. There was no harm in that and it wouldn't kill him to ignore his fear of the whole love thing again.
And with that thought, his eyes opened. It was bright like the last time and his eyes narrowed against the light, but they adjusted quickly. He had no idea what day it was or how much time had passed by, but he could tell that it was daylight. He could see the suns rays streaming in through the curtains off to his side. He tried to move, but his entire body felt like a giant piece of lead. He had no idea that he hadn't moved in a week. He groaned quietly, squeezing his eyes shut. Everything felt stiff. He could move his fingers slightly, but was still having issues getting his hand up to his face. He felt groggy and his mouth felt as dry as the Sahara desert.
After what seemed like an eternity, he was finally able to move his arm and bring his hand up to his face. He rubbed his eyes slowly in an attempt to rid himself of the grogginess that he felt, but it wasn't working. The doctors must of had him knocked up on meds. Or maybe he had just slept for far too long. He didn't know nor did he really care at that point. He took a breath and sighed heavily, noticing that it didn't hurt as much when he breathed. At least that was a good sign. He then noticed Salena wasn't beside his bed like the last time. Some time had gone by, of course she wouldn't still be there. He would've spoken out loud, but he was parched. The Gods must of been on his side that day because he could see a cup of water just to the right of him. The only problem was getting it.
Using as much strength as he could muster up, he lifted his arm up and reached over, straining to get it. And get it he did. With a weak, shaky hand he pulled the cup over and drained it of its contents. He felt a slight chill as the water went down and breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank God for that," he mumbled, his voice hoarse and unrecognizable. Having defeated the water, he settled back into his laying position, not that he had moved up too much from it, and closed his eyes, though he was still awake. [/blockquote]

Salena's dream had been like every other for the past week. It was dry, emotionless, and empty. She could see everything around her, but it was as if time was frozen. She walked past crowds of people, unmoving, uncaring. Leaves had been blown into the air, and sat there, hovering in place. She pushed past a tree branch and stopped. It was the same... everywhere she looked... it was all the same.
But she still had hope. She still felt that if she kept walking... maybe, just maybe... she could find something that moved. Exactly what she was looking for, she had no idea... but she had to find it. She had to find it or-
Salena's eyes shot wide open, as they usually did when a nurse came in, or something bumped the glass window from the outside. She had been sleeping on the far side of the room, on the floor, her back against the wall. But something had waken her... and she wasn't sure if it had been part of the dream, or reality.
Slowly, she stood to her feet and peeked over at Kaige's hospital bed. What she saw nearly brought tears to her eyes. Her lip quivered, as if she didn't know what to say. It was obvious that he hadn't seen her there, and she wanted to let him know that she had stayed with him... after all, nothing else mattered to her.
She had only ever left to use the bathroom, or occasionally sneak into the showers for a quick clean up. The nurse always dropped off a fresh cup of water for her to drink, were she thirsty, and a crisp apple. Salena didn't like apples in the best of times, but they were starting to grow on her.
She opened her mouth to speak, but nothing came out. She had been waiting for Kaige to wake up. She wasn't even sure how long it had been... but she had waited. Slowly, quietly, she walked over to him. His eyes were closed, but she could tell that things were different. He was awake. He was finally awake.
She reached out her hand and let it hover above his arm. If he was still resting, she wanted to let him rest, so she didn't speak a word. Instead, she softly layed her hand over his, just enough to feel its warmth tickle at her senses. Her heart beat a bit faster. Kaige was going to be OK... even if he never cared about her again, atleast he was waking up... and that was all that mattered at the time.

Kaige hadn't know Salena was still in the room. He hadn't moved enough to see if she was around. He saw a shadow loom across his closed eyes and panicked for a moment, thinking the darkness was making its way back to him, but it was nothing to worry about. Someone was standing beside his bed, but he didn't know who. He knew immediately it wasn't a nurse or doctor though. They usually did went about poking and prodding him. This person wasn't. This person was just... standing there. He found it a little weird, but he was too tired to open his eyes to find out who it was. He was just relieved to be free of the barren wasteland that had held on to him for however long he had been out.
It was then that he felt something on his hand. Whether it was something touching it or just barely touching it, he felt it and it was unsuspected. It startled him enough to snap his eyes open and cause his heart to beat frantically against his chest, causing the machine monitoring his heartbeat to go in a frenzy. He looked around the room wildly for a moment until his eyes landed on Salena and he relaxed just a little. "Oh... it's just you." The way his voice sounded and the way he worded that made it seem like he was disappointed, but he was far from it.
He cleared his throat in an effort to speak better and attempted to push himself up into a sitting position, but failed to do so. His body still felt stiff and lead like. His eyes closed again and he sighed, bringing a hand up to his forehead. A few minutes passed and he finally opened his eyes again, bringing his gaze to hers. "How long have I been out?" he asked, keeping his voice low so he didn't sound like an ogre. "And how long have you been here? I hope you went home at least once or twice," he said, now mumbling and not knowing that she had no real home to go to. "No need to stick around here and wait on my dumb ass...." He sighed and turned his gaze back to the ceiling, staring mindlessly at the florescent light above him. "I don't even remember what happened..." [/blockquote]

Salena frowned and looked down through the corner of her vision. "About a week..." She spoke softly, answering both questions. She didn't comment on the part about going home... This hospital had been the closest thing to home she had since she had turned human just a few years ago. She still would be glad to get the hell out of there once Kaige was well and better.
"You were shot..." She told him. She didn't know the whole story, she only knew what she had seen. "In the Alley... You lost a lot of blood." Her face looked disguisted. She was angry... angry at who ever would do this to Kaige. She didn't admit it, but she was so glad to have seen Kaige wake up. She had missed him terribly, but she would never admit that.
Salena realized that her hand was still sitting on top of his, and she blushed embarassingly. She thought best to pull away, but she didn't. Instead, she grabbed hold of his hand, entertwining her fingers in his. "I was so scared..." Salena finally admitted, feeling a bit sit to her stomach.
"You died Kaige." You could see the tears whelling up in her eyes, but she wasn't about to let them fall. "The doctors say you shouldn't have made it... that it was a miracle." She squeezed his hand a little tighter. She agreed with the doctors, it was a miracle. She just didn't know who to thank.
She turned her gaze to him. She hated seeing him hooked up to all these tubes and machines... but that was best for him to get better. "Just rest, Kaige. You are still in no condition to do anything..." Then her frown turned into a slow, faint smile.
"I am so glad you're going to be OK."

"A week...," he repeated, staring blankly at the ceiling. Tiny little dots began to fill his vision. He wasn't sure if it was because of the light or if he was about to black out yet again. He wasn't really worried about it. "Well... I'm sure I missed out on a lot," he spoke sarcastically, starting to sound like his normal self. He turned his head slightly to look at her. "I hope you honestly didn't stay here twenty four seven... there was the option of leaving and coming back, you know. I'm sure these chairs or the floor aren't very comfortable." He turned his head away and looked back to the ceiling. "But thanks for staying..." He added as an afterthought. He didn't want to see like he didn't appreciate it.
He was starting to remember it now, just bits and pieces. He remembered he was going to a shop to buy cigarettes. He remembered taking the short cut down the alley. He remembered coming across the guy, a guy whose face he never saw. He remembered seeing the gun, hearing it go off, then seeing all the blood. His eyes closed again, partially because he felt weak and tired, and partially because the light was starting to bother him. "I wonder if he even took my wallet," he mumbled, bringing his one free hand up to rub his eyes. If that guy hadn't and Kaige was going through all of this for nothing, well...
Salena broke his thoughts when she spoke again. Though his eyes were closed, his expression darkened somewhat, then went blank. "I guess I'm just special," he said after awhile, no specific tone to his voice. It was clear there was more to it. He knew more than what he was leading on. Those things that had happened in his darkened state of mind were real all right. Thanatos had appeared and he had killed him... again. He remembered the pain he felt before his heart stopped and he cringed very faintly. Then he remembered waking up in that meadow and hearing his mother's voice. Was that what brought him back? Had she had the power to bring him back to life? There were so many questions that would go unanswered. He would never know.
His eyes opened again, but something was different this time. He seemed far away. He took his hand away from hers slowly and locked his hands on his chest. He could feel his heart beating, though barely. "Well... hopefully I'm out of here soon," he said after a moment, though he didn't seem enthusiastic about it or hopeful. He fell silent after that and said nothing more - just stared at the ceiling like a mindless zombie. [/blockquote]

Salena shrugged nonchalantly. "There really wasn't any other place for me to be..." Where would she leave to? She had no home, no true friends... just a gang of buddies that helped her pay for food and clothes every once in a while. Even they didn’t know she was homeless. It really wasn’t a big deal to her. She had lived off the land for years as a wolf, the only difference now was that it was harder to catch food, especially since raw meat disgusted her since turning human.
She frowned as he took his hand away, but out of respect, she pulled hers back as well. “Sorry…” She mumbled in sort of a tone of embarrassment. “I’m sure you’ll be out soon.” She spoke up, trying to sound encouraging. “A week ago, you were dead. So, this is pretty much a huge improvement.” She gave him a goofy smile.
She glanced away from him, staring out at the wall. “I… missed you…” She whispered, almost regretting saying it. She wasn’t sure how he would take it, but she wanted him to know. She may have been at his side for the entire week, but he hadn’t really been there. His mind had been trapped while he slept. She had been so glad to hear his voice. He could have yelled at her, and she would have been glad to hear it.

"Mmhm..." was all Kaige said in response to her. His eyes looked cloudy and he still seemed far away. There was really no telling what was going on in his mind just by looking at him. He could of been having another episode for all anybody knew, but that wasn't the case. He was trapped in a sea of thoughts, though it wasn't anything like it had been before. He was bothered by a few things, things he would never get an answer to. He couldn't let it get to him. He didn't want to slip back to his normal, brooding self so shortly after apparently returning from the dead.
"No worries," he said absentmindedly, tapping his fingers together as he stared at the ceiling. He shrugged as best he could in response to him leaving. "I doubt it. They'll probably keep me here for a little while to keep an eye on me until they're sure I'm in the clear." He sighed heavily then frowned. "I don't even know if I'm in the clear." If his mother was right, then he had to be. There would be no freaky things happening anymore, not this soon anyway. "But who knows. I'll probably be stuck around here for another hundred years or so." He half laughed, though there didn't seem to be a lot of emotion behind it.
As if someone had heard him talking about it, a nurse walked in to do another check up. It was blatantly obvious she wasn't expecting him to be awake. The look on her face said it all as she turned around from shutting the door. "Well, look who's up!" she said cheerfully, though still startled. Kaige turned his head to look at her, then looked back at the ceiling, muttering something obscene under his breath. He hoped she would get her poking and prodding done and over with soon. He had had enough of it.
The nurse did the normal things - blood pressure, pulse, noting what was going on with the machines. "Everything looks to be good," she said as she jotted a few things down on the clipboard she carried. "You're still low on blood so the doctors will probably do a couple more blood transfusions just to be on the safe side." She turned her back for a moment to place the clipboard back and Kaige made a face, quickly changing it back when she turned back around. "You're not in the clear yet, unfortunately. They'll probably keep you here for a few more days, maybe a week, just to do a few tests and make sure you're fully recovered before sending you home." She headed back toward the door, turning back before stepping out. "Anything I can get you?" she asked, mainly speaking to Kaige. "Water would be nice...," he said, waiting for her to leave. The nurse nodded and stepped out the door, shutting it behind her.
With her gone, Kaige turned his gaze to Salena, brows raised with a look on his face that clearly said 'I told you so.' [/blockquote]

Salena frowned and sighed. "Well... free food." She shrugged, smiling a little. Not that she ever cared for hospital food herself. It sucked to hear that he had to stay a while longer. She herself had been going crazy cooped up there. She couldn't imagine what he was going through; forced to lay in that aweful bed for weeks.
She turned around and swiped the apple off the counter, taking a quick bite from it, and chewing rather loudly. Then she threw herself in the chair, and put her feet on the edge of it, sitting in a balled up position like she was used to. "Oh, it wont be too bad." She tried to pursuade him. "You get to sleep all day, eat whenever you want to... you don't even have to get up to go to the bathroom." She pointed to the pan next to his bed, then couldn't help but chuckle a little just thinking about it. Hopefully Kaige had a sense of humor.
"Besides..." She took another, quick bite from her apple, chawing down on it like some sort of animal; but a mannerful animal. If you watched her long enough in that hospital room, her unusual, animalistic features would have began to show; her sharper than usual canines, tough nails, alert senses, not to mention her sharp focused eyes. They were brighter than most people's, and they almost always had a certain shine to them. Her pupils darted around wildly when she looked around, and her ears twitched at different sounds. She had definately not been born a human.
"...I'll stay here. You know, to keep you company." She blushed. When he had been asleep, it had been easy. But now that he was awake, maybe it would seem a bit creepy if she were to hang around all the time. She still didn't want to leave his side, however, considering just how unstable he still could be. It had taken the doctors too long to react the last time, she didn't want this to be the case again.
