Being hit by a wing caught him offguard, but his feet remained rooted to the wooden porch. "Gotta try harder than that," he said, smirking. "It's fine. You're not really my type anyway." His voice was bland and his expression matched. In all reality, if Kaige had a type, she would probably be the most fitting. He didn't plan on telling her that, though. He didn't want to make things seem any stranger. It was refreshing having someone to talk to and joke around with. He never got any of that with anyone else, not even his past mates. Maybe there really hadn't been a connection with any of them and he had just been desperate to be with someone. If that was true, he was nowhere near that now. None of that was happening again.
"Hey!" he said, taking a step forward, poking her shoulder. "You can hate the blonde hair all you want, but I find that I get a lot of attention for it." He paused, looking quizzical. "Or maybe it's just because I look strange." He nodded as if he was agreeing with himself. "Yeah, it's probably that. Anyway, I don't really care for the whole flying thing. Way back in the days of the Forgotten Forest, I had wings for a short period of time." He made a face. "They were annoying. I prefer keeping my feet on the ground... that way I don't look like an even bigger freak," he said, poking fun at her.
He took a step back, recrossing his arms over his chest. "Hmm... I guess that's another thing we have in common," he said, raising a brow. "I don't have anything better to do either. I've finished up all my work and now I have nothing to do." He looked at her as if she was crazy and shook his head. "I hope you're joking about that. I've already messed with one, I don't want to mess with another. But hey, whatever floats your boat..." He glanced down at her outstretched hand, debating over whether or not to shake it. He could be an ass like the first time and that thought made him laugh. He decided he would allow the shaking of the hands and proceeded to do so.
"Yeah, I'd hate to admit that I enjoyed talking to you," he said, pretending to sound disgusted. "But I guess I did." He half grinned. "I'm not special, though. I'm more trouble than anything." It might not have seemed like it to her, but he was. He brought on more grief than anything else. If only he was able to change that. "I guess I'll be seeing you around then," he said as he began to head for the door. "You know, seeing as how you creep around in the forest and all outside my house..." He laughed quietly and stepped inside, almost shutting the door before he heard her speak again. He raised his hands up in a shrug. "Sure, I guess. It's not rocket science." With that, he shut the door and locked it, then headed upstairs to go to bed. It had been a long, strange day, but he enjoyed it none the less. [/blockquote]

Karin walked off with an unusual smile on her face. She felt a little giddier than she probably should have, but she was glad she could actually have a day off to just, goof off and have fun. It wasn't just fun, they had gotten out some serious personal issues, and yet she wasn't nervous about it. There was just something about that crazy old guy that she found she could trust.
When she finally made it home, she watered her plants, and headed straight for bed. She had forgotten that she had to be up to work so early in the morning, and she groaned at her clock. Nevertheless, she rolled over, covered herself up, and fell asleep.
(whoo! lame!)
----
She had awoken the next morning in a panic. Thanks to all the strangness of the day before, he had forgotten to set an alarm, and now she had a total of three minutes to get ready and be all the way across town. She growled, heaving herself out of bed and into the shower. She took her time... if she was going to bed late, she was at least going to make a good impression by being clean.
She dressed quickly, and grabbed all of her things she usually brought to work, then headed out down the path. In a hurry, she bumped into a lady who was fixing her make-up, and scattered all of her blue prints. "Hey! Watch it!" She growled at the lady, who quickly continued on her way.
Karin gathered all of her papers together and stood up. Then she saw it. Or at least she thought she saw it. It was only a glance, but she didn't know anybody else with that jet black hair with the blue streaks. She saw her disappear behind a building. What intrigued her the most was what was wrapped around her shoulders; a man. A rather cute looking guy at that.
A smile formed on Karin's lips. She felt some sort of relief. At least now, she could tell Kaige that she was alright, and that she seemed to be moving on. She wasn't sure why, but it made her feel very happy. She made a mental note to visit Kaige after work to tell him all about it.
-----------
"Yes sir." She said robotically to her tall, intimidating boss. "No sir, I wont be late again. Scouts honor." She recited, holding up three fingers. The boss gave her a disgrunted sneer, but Karin just grinned back. He dismissed her, and she headed back for home.
When she had reached her house, she tossed her things inside, and left just as quickly. She found it odd that she was so excited, but she went with it anyway. She let her feet carry her to the end of the board walk, then she stretched out her wings and shook them free. Walking was nice and all, but flying was so much faster. Besides, it had been a long time she she had gotten a really good view of the forest.
She flew up high; she had to, to clear over the trees. Her eyes traced the tree line below her. A bird passing by gave her an odd glance, then carried on its own way. She spotted the house through the trees, and folded her wings together, diving down quickly.
At the last moment, she snapped her wings open, and fluttered them, landing softly on Kaige's roof. She grinned, and hoped down, using her wings to slow her fall. She wlaked over to the door, and gave it a loud tap, hoping that Kaige wasn't away. Then quickly, quietly, she leapt into the air and landed on his roof, crouching down in hopes that Kaige wouldn't spot her right away. She grinned. Since when did she enjoy such childish games?

For the first time in a long time, Kaige had slept rather soundly through the night without tossing and turning or waking up at odd hours like he normally did. Was it because he didn't feel troubled by some things anymore, or was it because he had had an actual conversation with someone for the first time and actually enjoyed himself? He couldn't figure it out and he hadn't wanted to dwell on it. He figured he would just let it go and enjoy this while he could. It was rare that things like this had happened and he wasn't going to complain about it.
There hadn't been much for him to do throughout the day. He had finished all of his work from the weeks before and didn't have anything new coming in. Without Salena hanging around, he didn't even have anyone to bicker with. When he thought about it, he realized they hadn't talked much. Sure, they had said a few things here and there, but it wasn't anything like talking with Karin. Things had just seemed awkward between him and Salena and he wasn't sure what the cure for that was. Maybe if she finally moved on, things would be better. Maybe then they could be friends, but he didn't know. He could only hope.
While in the middle of taking a shower, he swore he heard a knock on his door. He paused for a moment, wondering if he had imagined it, then shook his head and turned the water off. He quickly grabbed a towel from the rack and wrapped it around his waist without bothering to dry off. Whoever it was would just have to deal with him dripping wet and in a towel. He hoped it wasn't some random stranger coming to bother him, but then he remembered he lived out in the middle of the forest. Who the hell would be able to find his house and who in their right mind would go walking through a forest filled with giant man eating bugs?
When he reached the bottom of the steps, it occurred to him then who it was. However, when he went and opened the door, no one was there. "What the...." His voice drifted off and he stood there stupidly. It hadn't taken him that long to answer the door, had it? He listened closely for a moment, a slow grin forming across his lips. He walked across the porch and down the steps, laughing quietly. "Gonna have to try harder than that," he said as he turned around to look up at the roof, spotting Karin. "I am a mind reader, after all, and I'm pretty awesome at sensing someones presence." He was pleased to see her again. Maybe now he wouldn't be so bored. [/blockquote]

Even despite how tightly she pressed up against the roof of the house, Kaige had spotted her like it was nothing. She grinned from ear to ear. "I just wanted to play a little game." She snickered, standing up and shaking the leaves from her pants. "I'm a little disappointed that I'm no good at it." She laughed slightly, then leapt down from the roof. Half way inbetween the fall, she let her wings retract into her skin, but she still managed to land half way decent.
"I am even further impressed by your abilities, though." She smiled. Then, finally, standing just feet away from her, she noticed that he was wearing nothing but a towel. She rose a brow, and smirked, her cheeks flushing just slightly.
"If you're trying to impress me..." She said bluntly. "Its working." She snickered. She couldn't help but stare at him. It wasn't like he was the ugliest thing in the planet. Far from it. He had a nice face, but he also had a great body. She laughed at herself. Now was not the time to be staring at half naked men.
"Hey, go get dressed." She chuckled. "I've got a secret I want to fill you in on. No peeking though!" She scolded him, pointing a finger while she tapped her skull with the other hand. "Its a surprise."

"Sure you did," Kaige replied, one brow arched. "You knocked on my door, went up to my roof and when I went to answer it, you probably planned on trying to spook me or something like that, am I right?" he asked, now smirking. "I'm sure it was something along those lines if I wasn't right. And don't feel bad. It's not your fault you suck. It's my fault I'm so good at winning." He was only kidding and he was enjoying it a little more than he normally would have. Something about her made him feel a little more at ease and not all awkward and tense like he had felt with Salena. He didn't think too much of it, though. They were merely two people becoming friends as far as he was concerned.
"My power is far from impressive," he said, shaking his head. "You need to get that through your head," he said with an exaggerated sigh. He then caught her staring at him, yet again, and he laughed. "What?" he asked, looking at her like she was crazy. "You think I did this for you? Oh, no, no, no." He laughed again and shook his head, sending a few drops of water into the air. "I heard someone knocking and grabbed the nearest thing. I didn't know it was you." He laughed some more, then finally quieted down, breathing in deeply. "That was good though. I got a good laugh out of that. Gave me a good ab work out." He snickered, eyes gleaming.
"Why should I have to get dressed?" he asked, both amused and confused. "This is my house. Hell, if I wanted to, I could walk around with nothing on." He paused, then winked at her. "Wouldn't want to give you a heart attack though." With that, he headed back into the house to do as she wished. Once he was upstairs and in his room, he grabbed a pair of loose shorts he had thrown on his bed and pulled them on, then used the towel to quickly dry his hair as best he could before heading back down. He still had water dripping from his skin and is hair was a wild mess, but at least he was dressed. Somewhat. [/blockquote]

Karin laughed. It had been a good long while since she laughed that hard. She was thorougly enjoying keeping him company, even if he was a bit... distracting... at times.
"Oh like that is any better." She rolled her eyes. In all honesty, she preferred it that way. She liked the way he looked, so why should she care? At least it was a little less distracting than before. She gave him a light shove, then smiled at him.
"Well, I got some news... and I'm not sure how you'll react to it, so you may want to hold onto something." Of course, she was over reacting a bit, but she did it for the effect. "I know how you said you wanted Salena to move on..."
She paused, and rose her brows. "Well, I'm pretty sure I saw her in the city this morning. Unless somebody else has the exact same hair...I couldn't see her very well, but she did have some guy's arm around her shoulders, and the glimpse I got of him looked very happy." She took a breath, and looked at Kaige, trying to guess what he was feeling at the time.
"What ever you said to her must have worked... Maybe she is finally moving on." She thought about the situation for a moment, and then frowned. "I'm sorry she hasn't come to visit you. Maybe she just doesn't want to mess things up with her new boyfriend." She shrugged. She wasn't making and accusations. She knew better.
"But, I mean, thats a good thing, right? You wanted her to be able to move on. Do you think its possible that she is finally doing just that?"

"Don't hate what you can't have," Kaige replied playfully. "Although..." He winked, not finishing what he was going to say. It seemed like it was too soon to be joking about things like that, but he couldn't help himself. He was having a rather good time and it seemed like his good mood would continue on. "How dare you touch me," he said, feigning shock and disgust. "I haven't given you that privilege, but I'll let it slide just this once." He grinned and ran a hand through his wet mess of hair.
When he heard she had some news, his playfulness was replaced with mild curiosity. When she mentioned Salena's name, the curiosity was evident in his eyes and he began to frown. He didn't know what she meant by holding on to something. Was it something bad? Or was it good? Or was she just trying to be dramatic? He listened intently, the frown deepening as Karin went on. There was no doubt in his mind that it wasn't Salena - how many people around here had blue and black hair? The only thing that would make him think it wasn't her was hearing about the guy.
"Huh," he muttered after she was done, rubbing his chin in a perplexed manner. "Something doesn't seem right about that," he said, looking over his shoulder with narrowed eyes. "I mean, if it's true, then I'm glad to know she's alright and happy, but still..." He shook his head. "With another guy just a week after leaving here? Especially after she said how much she loved me and everything? It doesn't add up..." He fell silent, wondering how he would be able to figure this one out, but he came up with nothing.
"Well, maybe you're right. Maybe what I said finally got through to her and she's moved on. I really hope so..." He sounded doubtful, but he hoped it was true. It wasn't that he felt jealous or wanted her back, because he didn't, but something seemed sketchy. He might of told her he didn't want to be with her, but he still cared about her. And if something bad happened, it would be his fault this time because he had told her to go. [/blockquote]

Karin shrugged. "I mean... In her defense, it's almost been two weeks." She pointed out. She wasn't quite sure why she hadn't thought about it before. Maybe because, for some odd reason, she was glad to hear that Kaige's old fling finally moved on. Or probably it was just because she hadn't known them long enough to think Salena was incapable of moving on. Yeah, probably that one.
She folded her arms trying to become serious again, even though she was enjoying the jokes and playful taunts. "Well, if you're worried about her, you could always visit her." She suggested. "I mean, it shouldn't be hard finding her, right? If you go to the city, and look for her... you could find me fairly quickly. I'm sure you could find her without a problem."
She shrugged her shoulders and stuck her hands in her pockets. "I mean, she didn't look dead or anything. And the guy I saw her with looked nice..." She for one knew looks could be decieving, but she was hoping not to worry Kaige too much. "Orrrrr..." She rolled her tongue. "When I go back to the city, I could spy on her. That way she wont be too upset if she really is trying to move on, and then you show up."
She shrugged. "Either way, she didn't look like she was in any immediate danger. If you're that worried about her, there's ways of finding out." She glanced down for a moment. "I thought this would be a good thing..." She muttered, more to herself than anything, then she looked back up to Kaige. "So, what do you want to do?"

Kaige shook his head and crossed his arms over his chest, the frown still there. "Well, would you be with a new guy just two weeks later after claiming how madly in love you were with another guy?" he asked, looking directly at her. He shook his head and sighed, dropping his gaze to the ground. "I'm not worried about her," he said, kicking at the ground. "And I'm not going to go venturing in the city every single day at random hours trying to get a glimpse." He shook his head. "It's not that simple, but don't worry about it," he said, looking back at her, but not really at her. "I don't want to interfere with anything. Just let her do what she wants to do. If she's happy, good. I don't need her to be all hung up over me. Makes me feel all kinds of awkward..."
He had heard Karin's comment, but chose not to say anything. It was a good thing, yes, but he was still suspicious. He decided he wasn't going to dwell on it. He would let Salena do whatever she wanted to do without bugging her. If she was happy, that's all that mattered. Maybe things were changing for the better now. He shook himself from his thoughts and glanced up to the sky before looking back to her. "I don't know," he said with a shrug. "I don't have any plans and I'm relatively boring, so you're probably better off doing something else. I don't want to bore you to death," he said in an attempt to get the mood back to what it was before. [/blockquote]

Karin shrugged. "A lot can happen in two weeks..." She thought about that phrase for a while. It really was true. She wondered how Kaige was really feeling, but she chose to believe him. After all, she was no mind reader.
After his last comment, she looked at him and scoffed. "So I fly all the way out here, and you reject me?" She looked at him and smiled softly. "I didn't come out here just to tell you that little bit of information." Why had she come all the way out there, then, if not for just that? She thought about it, and smiled. There was no way she was telling him, and she hoped he wasn't reading her thoughts.
"Besides, I have YET to find you too awefully boring. A little annoying. Creepy maybe, but not boring." She grinned. It felt really good to just have that little bit of comanionship. She would have much rather stayed out here than gone back home to watch the grass grow. Literally.
"Damn it Kaige!" She finally yelled at him. "Put a shirt on! You are so damn distracting!" She rolled her eyes, hoping to lighten up the mood. "I mean really, how would you feel if /I/ took my shirt off?"

Kaige shrugged off what she had said, choosing to ignore it. "So why don't you move on then?" he asked, looking at her with a rather blank expression. Something showed in his eyes, but it was gone a second later. He shook his head and sighed. "You wouldn't get it. I'm done talking about it anyway." He fell silent after that, a sense of annoyance creeping up on him. He didn't know why it was coming up, but he didn't want to deal with it. They had been having a decent time just minutes ago, why should that have to change now?
"It's not like it takes you hours to get here," he muttered, going back to kicking the dirt beneath his feet. "You may have. I don't know that." He shrugged. "Don't see why else you would come out here." In all honesty, he really didn't know why. Sure, maybe she kind of liked talking to him, but there had to be more than that. If there was, he wondered what it was. If there wasn't, then whatever. "I don't get how I'm creepy, but alright," he said after awhile, shifting his weight to the other side of his body.
He was slightly startled when she yelled at him, but he didn't let it show. Instead, he both looked and remained calm. "I wouldn't care," he said, keeping the serious facade up. "If that's what you want to do, fine." He half shrugged. "I don't get all flustered like you do and no, I will not put a shirt on. This is my house and I'll do what I want." The last part sounded childish, but he didn't care. Besides, she couldn't really expect him to listen. He had a sneaking suspicion that she wanted him to remain shirtless anyway. [/blockquote]

Karin just smiled, chuckling only slightly. It was quiet after that, save for the wind, and the other usual forest noises. She looked over at him, and thought about what he had said. A frowned crossed her face, and she glanced down, forgetting that she had just been trying to lighten the mood.
"Me? Move on?" She snorted, but it was a sad sound. "I don't know..." She exhaled slowly, then looked up at the sky. "I guess... I still sort of blame myself for what happened. Dagger was always there for me, but I guess... in the end, I wasn't there for him."
She looked over at him, hoping that he could understand. "I don't want that to happen again. I can't..." She took a deep breath. "I can't lose him again..." The 'him' she was referring to was simply the next guy she just might fall in love with. She didn't want to think about what could happen. All the worst scenarios usually played in her head.
She looked away. "I never really even thought about moving on before recently... I always tried to pretend that Dagger was still right here with me. I know he'd want me to be happy, but... I'm just scared." She turned her eyes to Kaige and smiled sadly. "You aren't the only one who's afraid..." She spoke quietly.
She put her arms behind her head, as if she was trying to relax. "I was just kidding about you being creepy..." She added in for good measure. "You're actually a pretty cool guy to be around." She smiled, but only slightly. "I may jump to conclusions at times, but... I'm usually a pretty good judge of character. Don't doubt yourself so much."

"Wait a second," Kaige spoke up, looking at her with an arched brow. "Weren't you just saying something to me and Salena about not blaming ourselves for the things that had happened?" he asked, cocking his head slightly to the side. "So you can blame yourself, but we're not allowed to blame ourselves, hmm?" He smiled faintly and shook his head. "Like I told Salena... everything happens for a reason, even the bad things." He paused, soon frowning. "I should probably listen to that myself...," he said with a sigh, dropping his gaze to the ground. "I should probably just shut up. I'm just a hypocrite anyway."
Tired of standing, Kaige lowered himself to the ground and sat down, then decided to lay back in the grass and stare up at the sky. "You and I have a lot more in common than we realize," he said, watching the clouds lazily drift on by. It was nice, even if some of the things they shared were bad. With Salena, he couldn't think of a thing they had in common. They were complete opposites. People said opposites attract, but that wasn't the case when it came to them.
"You say that now...," he said with a faint laugh as he brought his hands up to his chest. "But you haven't really known me that long. I'm a pretty complex guy. So I've been told anyway." He shrugged. "I have to agree with those people though. I can't stand myself half the time. You must be really bored or really lonely, putting up with me." He turned his head to her and smiled before looking back to the sky. "But hey, I'm not complaining." [/blockquote]

Karin decided to sit almost the same time as Kaige did. She sat a few feet away from him, her legs stretched out, holding herself up by her hands. "I think we are all just a bunch of hypocrites." She said. She wasn't proud of it, but sometimes, it was just easier to give other people advice than to follow your own.
"I think its funny how you think you know exactly how things are going to turn out if I stick around." She kept her gave up at the trees. "I mean, I know you've said you could see some of the future, but I don't think this is one of them. You are so intent on making me believe you really are a bad guy, aren't you?"
She looked over at him, looking him in the eyes. Her look was serious. "What if I refuse to believe that? What if I choose to be here, because I like being here. Not because I'm lonely, not because I'm bored, but because I genuinly enjoy this. I don't just put up with anyone, Kaige. That's something you need to know. I don't have to just put up with you. I choose to be here because I..." Her words faded off, and she glanced away.
She moved her arms, and let herself fall to the ground, letting out a slight "oomph" when she hit the grass. She folded her hands across her stomach. She felt so stupid, so weird, for how she felt. And after just two weeks. But at the same time, she had just mentioned that a lot could happen in two weeks. Still... it was hard, and she didn't want to mess things up.
She rolled her head over to look at him again. "Just... stop being so freaking depressing." She smiled at him. "You don't know me. Maybe I like complex. Maybe I'm just the one person out there who isn't afraid of getting to know you." She smiled innocently, which surprisingly brought out a whole new look to Karin, which wasn't necessarily bad.
"Give me a chance to prove that, hm, Kaige? I'm not all that bad you know."

"Must be human nature," Kaige replied with a snort. "I take that back. Wolves are just as guilty of it. I know I had to of been a hypocrite back then." He tried to think back to those days, but, for the most part, a lot of his memories were hazy. He only remembered the big things that had happened. It was slightly disappointing. What if something little but amazing happened? He wouldn't know about it. "Damn shitty memory...," he muttered quietly to himself. "I guess it's just easier to give others advice instead of following it yourself, huh?" he asked, almost as if he knew exactly how she felt. "It makes sense, I suppose." He shrugged, tapping his fingers against his chest.
"I'm not saying I know how things will turn out," he said. "I'm just saying..." He paused and frowned. "I guess I don't really know what I'm saying. Just ignore me." He fell silent for a moment, losing himself in his thoughts yet again. He rolled over onto his side to face her, keeping his head propped up on his hand. "You chose to be here because you...?" he inquired innocently, slightly curious. He only had a slight idea of what she was going to say, but he couldn't be too certain. If she didn't want to tell him, fine. He would eventually find out anyway.
"I'm not being depressing. I'm being annoying, just like you said I was," he said with a smile before turning back onto his back. "You're right. I don't know you. Not very well, anyway. You could be a psychotic serial rapist for all I know." He looked back over to her, barely holding in his laughter. "You do look at me a lot. But that could be because I look strange." He turned his gaze away, shaking in silent laughter. "Never said you were bad, but you do what you want to do. You're responsible for the consequences." [/blockquote]

Karin turned her head to listen to him. After he had finished speaking, she smiled gently. "I've never raped anyone that I'm aware of. Then again, I guess I could have mutliple personalities. I could be a compulsive lier. Maybe there are things about me I don't even know." She laughed at the idea of it all. She hoped he didn't think she was that crazy.
"You don't look strange..." She whispered, closing her eyes for just a moment to just listen in to the sounds around them. She let her mind disapear into a quiet place, for just a moment, while she tried to gather her thoughts together. She wasn't sure how she was supposed to feel, or what she was supposed to do, but she did know how she was feeling at that moment, and there was no stopping that.
"Do you..." She opened her eyes, staring at Kaige for a quiet moment before speaking up again. "Do you suppose I could move on?" It was a stupid question, but she was seriously contemplating all this. "I mean... What if something bad like that happens again? I don't know what I'd do..."
She laughed. "Wow, don't I just sound pathetic. I'll kill a couple of giant, man eating spiders, but I can't even admit how I'm feeling." She sat up, shaking the grass from her long hair. "Don't be angry with me Kaige, but I've been thinking about things... especially everything that happened yesterday, and I've got to say..." She looked over at him, hoping that once again, he could understand that she in no way wanted to upset him, or do anything that would make him uncomfortable.
"Well, I kind of like you." Her cheeks instantly flushed red, and she looked away, like a small child around her first crush. Most of the time, she hated feeling weak and exposed. It usually terrified her. At the moment though, she welcomed the feeling. It was new. It was something she hadn't felt in a long, long time.
"Dagger is probably rolling over in his grave right now..." She mumbled to herself, laughing. She turned back to Kaige. "I'm sorry, just ignore me. It was stupid. I don't want to make things awkward."

Kaige couldn't help but laugh at that. "Maybe there are, you never know," he said, finding shapes in the clouds hanging around. "I could always take a look into your mind and recite stuff back to you to see if you already know about it or not, but I don't think you're worth my time." He was obviously kidding. If she wasn't, he would have told her to buzz off two weeks ago when he first met her. "No, I won't do that. You don't have to worry about hiding any of your private thoughts. Your mind is safe from me... for now." He snickered quietly. "I'm only kidding. Your mind is completely safe from me. Like I said, I don't normally go looking into peoples thoughts or feelings anymore. You're lucky." He smiled, continuing to watch the clouds.
Hearing her say he didn't look strange made him snort and he shook his head. "Whatever you say, darlin'," he said, bringing one arm up to cover his eyes. "You have your opinions, I have mine." He threw his arm off his face and to the side of his head, doing the same with the other one as well so that he was stretched out completely. He closed his eyes, enjoying the cool breeze that ran across him. "Sure you can," he said after awhile. "You've just got it in your head that you can't. At least, that's what I've picked up from you anyway. You gotta take chances. After all, what's life without taking a few risks? I've done it, and while things may have turned out bad for me, I can at least say I took a chance."
He was quiet again after that and after awhile, it seemed like he was sleeping, but he wasn't. He was listening to her, but he wasn't saying anything. He didn't think she was pathetic. She was starting to remind him of himself in some ways. It was strange, but nice at the same time. He was brought back to reality when she said she liked him. His eyes snapped open and he continued to lay there silently without much of an expression. A minute later, he rolled back onto his side slowly and stared at her without speaking. It was hard to tell what he was thinking or feeling. Sometimes, he was just acting and other times he wasn't. Most people couldn't figure out which one it was.
Finally, he spoke. "So... you're saying...," he started slowly, his voice and expression now serious. "You only kind of like me?" he asked, his expression starting to crack. "I'm only kind of worth liking? I see how it is." He rolled back over onto his back, half grinning. He had been expecting her to say it, but it was kind of nice hearing it out loud. "I've been in plenty of awkward situations," he said, turning his head to look at her. "This ain't one of them. And you're not so bad yourself." With Kaige, that was his way of letting someone know he liked them as well. It was about as good as it was going to get. [/blockquote]

Karin loved his honesty. Sure, they had their share of jokes and laughs, but so far, from what she could tell, he was a very honest man, and that meant a lot to her. She listened to him talk, and she couldn't help but gleam.
His last few sentences felt like a huge compliment to her. She was glad that he didn't feel awkward about the situation, because she sure hadn't. Sure, he hadn't said she was beautiful, or that her eyes made him melt, or that he was in love with her when he first layed eyes on her, but really... why the hell would she want to hear all that? She definately preferred his honesty to some cheasy lie any day. It was those sort of things that made her know she could trust somebody. She tried to count all the people she could trust, and laughed. There had only ever been four, Dagger, her pups, and now Kaige.
Infact, the more she thought about it, the more she felt that Kaige was so much like Dagger had been. She wasn't looking to replace Dagger... nobody ever could, but at least now she found somebody almost as good. Well, as far as she could tell at that moment. She was just going to learn the rest as they went along.
"Well." She exhaled, pushing herself up into a sitting position. She crossed her legs out in front of her, holding herself up with her hands. "Now that we've got that out of the way..." She glanced back over at him with a smile, her golden eyes trying desperately to stay glue to his face, and not his abs. "I can show you my other power."
She grinned at him, standing up to her feet. She waited to see if he would get up too, while she motioned for him to stand. She almost hoped he would read into her mind and peek at what she was planning on doing, but she had a feeling he was going to stay true to his word. She had another feeling that if he was any bit of a true seer, he could sense what she wanted to do next. After all, Karin rarely kept her emotions bottled inside, and if you weren't ready to deal with them, they'd might surprise you off your feet.

It was refreshing. Talking, joking... hell, even laughing. Kaige very rarely ever laughed or smiled and he had been doing a lot of that in the short time he had known Karin. He hadn't done much of that with Salena. When he thought about it, he hadn't really done any of that with Salena when they were wolves. His memory could have failed him, but he couldn't think of many good times with her. The same went with Velia and Kali. Maybe he really hadn't loved them or cared about them as much as he thought he did. It was totally different with Karin. That had to mean something, right? He didn't want to think too far ahead of himself or make any assumptions, but he couldn't help but feel that it did. Maybe something could would come out of this.
"You didn't answer my question," he said, sounding offended. "I guess that answers it, then." He sighed and let his expression turn to one of sadness, though he was exaggerating and only kidding. "I'm only kind of worth liking. I understand," he said, shaking his head. "I wouldn't want to like me fully either." He was being honest, too. Half the time, he really couldn't stand himself. He was trying to fix it, but there was only one thing he could do at a time. He'd rather get to know Karin a little better before fixing some things with himself anyhow.
He turned and looked at her quizzically, one brow arched. "I'm sure I don't have to be standing up for you to show me," he said lazily, turning his head back. "I kind of like laying here in the grass. It feels nice. I haven't done it in awhile." He stretched out again, placing his arms behind his head, linking his fingers together. "If you really want me to get up, you'll have to make me," he said, his tone teasing. "And I don't think you will, so it looks like I'll still be laying here." He grinned slightly and closed his eyes. If she wanted him to do what he thought she wanted him to do, she would have to earn it. [/blockquote]

Karin rolled her eyes, folding her arms across her chest. Karin herself was a pretty stubborn person, and she usually just held her ground, which was what she was attempting at the time being.
"I didn't answer your question because I thought the answer was pretty obvious." She smirked, still refusing to answer his question, keeping him at bay. "Fine." She sputtered, shrugging her shoulders and lifting her hands into a quizzicle position. "Lay there, lazy. It just means you'll have to wait a little longer to find out."
She put a hand over her mouth, faking a very realistic yawn. "I'll just let you have your fun in the grass." She grinned and winked. "Let me know if it was worth it. I'll just... head back, all alone, in this terrifying forest." She overreacted, goofing off. She turned around and took a step away.
When she turned back to see him, she had a soft smile on her face, innocent, and girlish. Very unlike the Karin everybody else thought they knew so well. "I'll be honest with you. I only kind of like you because I havn't spent enough time with you, yet." She didn't mean it as an insult, and she hoped he wouldn't take it that way. "Buuuttt..." She sang. "I would like to spend more time with you, because I'm more than 90% sure that I want to more than kind of like you."
She chuckled girlishly, which almost creeped her out, but she shrugged it off. She was amazed how simple, and natural this felt. It came even easier than the relationship between herself and Dagger had years ago. Back then, Karin was a whole different person. She had grown since then, and matured. Things didn't upset her as much as they used to, and she appreciated other things much easier.
This was one of those moments when she felt very appreciative. Kaige understood her, and where she was coming from, and at the same time, she felt like she could understand him. It was mutual, the way things should always be. "AND..." She continued. "I'm more than 80% sure that I want to kiss you right now." She blushed. "The other 20% is just fear that a giant spider might decide it's hungry just when we've got our backs turned." She was half serious, half joking.
