She avoided that certain tree, despite that the view of the moon was best from there. Infact, she seemed to avoid nights all together, blending in more with the rest of the humans by choosing to sleep the nights away. She tried her best to remember why she was here. Why she was human. To forget about Kaige... to move on. She wasn't Shinrin anymore, she was Salena. And as much as she wanted to be around Kaige, now that he had returned, she just couldn't do it.
And maybe it was for the best. Kaige didn't feel anything for her anymore. And while she wanted to admit that she was fine with that, it was much harder for her to lie than others. So instead, she just avoided every place she thought Kaige may be without moving out of the city.
She rested her hand against the bark of and old tree, her fingers resting into its wedges as if she could almost feel the age of the tree. Her eyes gazed upon the view of the forest... it was so beautiful. She never understood why the humans prefered to stay in the clearing rather than live among the trees. The trees made it home...
She took a sharp inhale, the smells of the woods taking her senses for a joy ride back in time. The wind floated through her hair, bringing a sudden chill to her furless pores. It wasn't perfect... it was still a little different, but she was learning to enjoy the small moments of being human. It atleast made her hope that she was starting over, even if it was still hard to let go.
Her ears caught the sound of rapid flapping, and she emmediately thought of a bird. Her eyes traced the leaves and branches of the trees, but she didn't see any sign of a nest, or any birds. Instead, she spotted lines of silvery webs, strawn out across the trees like tinsle on a christmas tree. The rays of sun caught in the webs, and Salena could only admire them even further.
A moment later, the sound of rapid flapping grew louder, and she soon saw what was making the noise. It wasn't a bird, but a butterfly. It's pattern was unlike any she had seen before, but that was not what impressed her. What truly made her gasp was its shear size. It was massive... nearly the size of her old, wolf self.
It landed on the side of a tree, its wings gently flapping until they came to a stop. Its magnificent colors surprised Salena. She had never seen anything so large, and yet so gorgeous. Of everything she had seen inside the city, this bug had been the most stunning of it all.
Salena's smile slowly faded to a frown as she watched the butterfly stuggle against the tree. For a moment, she thought it had been injured, but on closer watch, she noticed the silvery lines flickering around it. The butterfly had gotten caught in the glittering webs, and seemed to be caught.
She carefully approached the insect, the webs buzzing and ringing as they clashed and bounced. Very cautiously, she reached forward and pulled the webs loose from the butterfly's hairy feet. Without hesitation, the butterfly took off, its wings flapping in majesty once more.
Salena smiled, proud that she had rescued the poor creature. Little things like this... they seemed so much more important to her since she had become human. She brushed the webs from her own hands, and turned to head back to her home in the city.
Only, there was something blocking her way home. At first, she almost didn't notice it. It was so green, she thought a leaf had fallen infront of her eyes. But as she watched its fangs rub together, she realized just exactly what she was staring at. A huge. Friggen. Ass. Spider.
Salena's mouth opened wide in shock, the massive spider, well over her own size, was rubbing its fangs together hungrily. Now that she thought about it, the spider probably wasn't too happy that she let its prey go free.
The spider took another step forward, its limbs raking through the underbrush without any difficulty. Salena could feel the beat of her heart speed up, until it was beating so fast, she thought she might faint. She tried backing up, but she bumped into the tree behind her, the spider's web catching onto her hands and clothes. With each movement she made, the web buzzed with excitement, which only seemed to make the spider even more hungry.
She opened her mouth to scream, only to find silence envelope her senses. Even if she had been able to scream, who would be around to save her? It was pointless. She took a deep breath and tried to shake off her fear. That was another thing she noticed... being human meant having more fears. It kinda sucked.
What was even worse were that her powers were pretty much useless to her now. For some reason, it was much harder to tap into her nature powers that she had aquired when becoming Mori. Her others powers proved to be more and more useless to her as time went on. Sure, she still had speed and flexibility... but against a giant ass spider? It seemed highly improbable that the task would prove easy.
Every eye of the spider stared down Salena, and she just sort of froze up, staring into her many reflections. She almost didn't want to fight it. After all, she had lived a long time. Much longer than most humans. She didn't really have any friends, and no family. It would be so much easier to just give up and let fate happen.
Unfortunately, her animal instinct of survival seemed to pass on entirely to her human form as well, and she found herself wanting to live. She shook her hands free of the spider's webbing, and pulled away from the tree. Emmediately after releasing herself, the spider's senses shot into overtime. Now that it realized she wasn't caught in its web, it realized that the only chance of catching its prey was to attack it as quickly as possible.Salena took a step around the tree, and then the spider lunged...

The sound of crunching dead leaves and snapping twigs rung throughout the air, though when the ground was free of debris, silence covered the clearing like a blanket covering a child. There was a crispness to the air as light slowly began to fill the area, the sun peaking over the tree filled horizon. Along with the sounds of crunching leaves and snapping twigs, rustling from birds and other small mammals could be heard as they surfaced from their slumber, awakening to another day. The sound of leaves and twigs grew louder and more persistent as a figure ran through the shadows of the forest. As the trees began to thin out in one area, the figure creating all the noise could be seen, but only slightly. It was easy enough to see that it was a person, more specifically a man. He was running, but whether or not he was running from something or someone was unknown.
Ever since he had run into Shinrin, or Salena, he supposed he should call her now, Kaige couldn't stop thinking about it. What were the chances of running into someone you once knew, especially someone you knew from a life entirely different from the one they were living now. The initial shock was over for him, but he was still baffled. He wasn't sure if all of this was a good thing or a bad thing. Things were certainly different now, especially his attitude toward her. Normally, he would have ripped her head off, but he was civil. Why? That was something that confused him the most and he had no answers.
As he continued running, something came into view up ahead. His gray eyes narrowed as he tried to make out what it was, but trees were blocking his sight. It was clear to him that there were at least two things, but what they were, he didn't know. His pace quickened and he ignored the fact that it could be something dangerous. He really didn't care. As he grew closer, he could see that one of the things was a person. A girl, at that. A... "Shinrin?" Kaige spoke, though he wasn't close enough for her to hear. "Er.. Salena..." He squinted as if he was making sure he was seeing the real thing again. His eyes glanced over to the other thing by her. "What the..." He wasn't sure if he was really seeing what he saw. A... spider? A giant one at that, one that looked like it was about to make her its early morning snack.
Without much of a thought, Kaige burst through the trees at an inhuman speed, heading for Salena. He might not of liked her in the past, but that was done and over with. He wasn't going to let some mutated spider make a meal out of her. At the same moment the spider lunged, Kaige pushed his legs off the ground and leaped toward Salena. His outstretched arms gripped hers as he pushed her out of the way, shielding her with his own body just so she would stay in one piece. It looked like the spider would be out of luck. It wouldn't be getting a human snack this morning... or would it? [/blockquote]

Suddenly, she found herself being thrown to the side, pushed out of the spider's path. She threw out her hands in front of her, stopping herself from hitting the nearest tree too hard. And just like that, she found herself free... safe... all she had to do was run.
In all honesty, Salena was getting tired of running. She turned her head, rage filling her eyes as she gazed at the attacking spider. Apparently, its hungry gaze had been turned onto another... possibly the one that had saved her? She wanted desperately to see who had saved her, she knew that if there was somebody, then she had to act fast... They had saved her life, and there was no way she was going to let theirs end, atleast not by a spider, no matter how large.
In a flash, she had regained her balance, and pushed herself off from the tree bark, launching herself at the eight legged freak. Years of practise had refined Salena's senses and reflexes. As long as it was distracted, she may be able to land a good blow... maybe smash the damned thing.
Her hit landed with a hideous cracking, and she realized her fist had cracked the critter's exoskeleton slightly, its goo oozing onto her fingers until she retracted her arm, shaking the liquid from her hand. The spider had been swayed, but to her amazement, still had some fight in it.
Its eyes rolled and locked onto herself once more, one by one. She ducked as one of its legs swung up onto a tree branch over her head, just barely missing her. Her heart beat rapidly, the adrenaline pumping through her system. It felt... alive, as if she were fighting, side by side with the warriors of the packs she once belonged to.
And the faster her heart beat, the slower time seemed to tick by, until she felt as though she were watching the world go by in slow motion, dodging the spider's futile attempts. She ducked once more as the spider lunged a second time, and she found herself directly underneath it. With another sharp punch, the spider was knocked to the side, wriggling into the undergrowth, attempting to retreat.
Salena watched it as it shook, then dropped into the grass, its limbs slowly curling against its body. She could see as each eye lost its luster... one by one, until she was sure that it was no longer a threat.
The terrifying moment over, she finally had time to take a breath, filling her lungs with fresh air and slowly calming her heart. Finally, she could see who it was who had saved her. She turned her head, only to see...
"Kaige?" She straightened up and cleared her throat. "What-how..." She blinked, surprised to see him out here in the middle of the woods. Even more surprised that he had just saved her life. "Um...hi?"

Having been moving too fast to push her out of the way, Kaige lost his footing and tumbled to the ground, crashing directly into a rather large tree. His skin made contact with the incredibly rough bark and split open, crimson blood oozing out instantly. "Shit," he muttered quietly, yanking his arm away to prevent outside material from getting in. His gaze darted back to where the spider was, seeing that it was now eyeballing him. He pushed himself up, dirt and other debris clinging staining his clothes and skin. As the spider inched closer to him, he began to quickly plan out what he was going to do. However, before he could do anything, Salena took it's attention away. He sighed, wondering if he was going to have to save her another time, but it soon became clear to him that he wouldn't.
As he watched her fight it off, he was surprised. Never before had he seen her do something like this, especially as a wolf. She had always seemed so... timid and fragile. Maybe she wasn't as pathetic as she let on to be. He was beginning to wonder if that was just an act. It was also apparent that she had no idea Kaige had just saved her. He cringed slightly as she found herself underneath it, wondering if that would be the end and the spider would win. But alas, the spider had met its end. Kaige couldn't help but be a little impressed. After all, that spider was as large as they were. He looked over at the lifeless mass and shook his head. He had never had anything against spiders, but that thing... well, that was something else.
When she turned around, Kaige rocked back on the balls of his feet and arched a brow. "You know, for someone who just saved your life... you could sound and look a little more grateful," he said, being only half serious. "I could have left that thing eat you. In fact, the old me probably would have let it eat you. All I get is a hi? No thanks? No... no... well, I can't think of anything else." The cut from his arm began to sting and he brought his attention to it, watching the blood trickle down and hit the ground. It didn't look too deep, but he could never be sure. "I get attacked by an angry tree, get this," he paused and showed her his arm with the long gash, "and all I get is a hi? Geez." He shook his head and sighed, although it was obvious he wasn't really mad.

Salena stared at Kaige for a long time, akward, not knowing exactly what to say. She took another deep breath, then her fierceness cooled, and her features became soft. Her eyes followed the gash in his arm, and she felt a little bad.
However, when she looked back up at him...he didn't appear angry. Confused, she cleared her throat and wiped the dirt from her arms. "I'm-sorry. I... I didn't notice you before..." She bit her lips, but approached Kaige. "I can help, if you'd let me..."
She pulled out a long, white scarf from her pocket, one she learned to carry around at all times, in case of emergencies like these. "Why-" She paused, eyeing the ground. "Why did you save me? I mean...why risk your own life? For me?"
(I'm sorry! Dx Its so terrible! ))

Kaige just shrugged and shook his head. He turned his attention back to the wound he had received, brushing off the remaining dirt and other things that stuck to him. "It's fine. I'm not really noticed by a lot of people these days," he said, pausing as he tugged the rubber band holding his hair back into a ponytail. "Not that I'm complaining," he added as an afterthought although he seemed to be hiding something behind his words, something he wasn't saying. He shook his head out, looking wild and crazy for a moment, then adjusted it and pulled it back into the rubber band. "And it's just a scratch," he said with a shrug as he glanced down to the wound. "No big deal." He knew he should probably get it taken care of soon, but he found that he didn't really care at the time.
He fell silent then, digging his dirt covered hands into his pockets, blood still dripping down his arm but not as bad as before. He didn't really know how to answer her question. "I don't know. I'm sorry I did, then?" he said, some of his old self showing. "It was just a spider..." Just a spider, yeah, right. That was more than just a spider. "Wasn't going to hurt me any."

For a brief moment, Salena could almost feel that something was certainly different than before. Kaige was naturally an angry person, or had been when he was a wolf. He was a lot bigger than she, tougher even, and a lot more stubborn. She hated to admit it, but even while they were together, he was intimidating to her. Shinrin herself had been so shy... it was hard to get a word out. But at the same time... she admired him, and she didn't want to disapoint him, so when he had said something, she forced herself to believe him. She was a push over... always trying to impress, always trying not to anger him...
Not anymore. For years, she felt like she didn't even recognize herself. Her fears and failures broke her down till she hit rock bottom; and she stayed there for a long time. She always did her best to help others, to impress others, to do what she could for others, that she completely disreguarded herself. Still, nobody noticed her. Nobody understood what she gave up. Nobody could ever understand the pain she felt... the pain she put herself in each day she was with Kaige, and for years after.
She was so sick of these feelings... of being invisable to others, of feeling like a cheap whine stain in a white carpet to the ones she cared about. Kaige seemed different than before... but he was still just as stubborn as always. Only her curiosity kept her sticking around now. Was Kaige still just as selfish as he had been before? Or had the years truly changed him? She wasn't sure, and she certainly wasn't hopeful... but she refused to sit and roll over.
"Shut up." She said sadly, shaking her head. "That was no ordinary spider. That thing was..." She took a deep breath, skipping the subject. "And that is not just a scratch." She approached him defiantly, a new confidence enveloping her. She reached forward and grabbed his arm, carefully, but casually, and wrapped the white scarf around the wound. She tied it snuggly, watching the crimson fluid stain its fair fabric. "That should help the bleeding for now. Trust me...these new bodies bleed easier than our lasts..."
She foolishly turned her gaze to his eyes. Like a dam breaking, she regretfully found her old emotions flooding back to her, with no control over its direction. Her hand softly on his arm, she found herself wishing to be close with him again... oh what she would have done if she could just stand on her toes and kiss him...
She chuckled softly, sadly. "You stubborn fool..." She lowered her arms and turned away, seperating herself from him. She was more than grateful that he had saved her life... but her curiosity had her wondering... why? When she had saved his life, he treated her with scorn and distrust. He had been so selfish back then... was it possible time might have actually changed his hardened heart? It seemed like nothing but a silly fantasy... just something she had been hoping for when she should have been moving on. She couldn't help but find herself wondering; Who is Kaige now?

Kaige could sense a change in the her attitude, but said nothing on the matter. "It was a spider. They're all the same." he said, his tone different from just moments ago. He stiffened up when she approached him and took his arm. "Yeah, I'm aware of that," he said, glancing down to the scarf. "It's not like I haven't been this way for a little while now." He was beginning to seem like his old self, the old self as in how he was before he became human. Moody, stubborn, quick to lash out... it was all slowly beginning to show again. He untied the scarf Salena had wrapped around his arm and tossed it back at her. "I don't need it," he said as he pushed past her. He could tell she was thinking of something. He could easily take a look into her mind, but he wasn't about to do that. He knew well enough what was going on, or knew almost all of what was going on and he was choosing to ignore it and walk away. "Stubborn is right," he muttered as he began to walk away, leaves and twigs snapping and crunching under his heavy boots. If she followed, whatever. If she didn't, whatever. "It's for your own good." It had seemed like he had changed before, that he was actually somewhat decent this time. But now, well, maybe it was just an act. Maybe he hadn't changed much at all.

Selena stood, offended by his actions as well as his words. "For my own good?!" She scoffed, and turned away from him, wanting to walk away and forget about whoever Kaige was, but something kept her feet planted to the ground. She threw the scarf to the ground out of anger, ignoring the blood on her fingers.
"Kaige Omenstar, you know nothing about me. How the hell can you say you know what is best for me?! Don't walk... DAMN IT!"
She trudged after him, stomping past the dead mass of spider, angrily chasing Kaige down. She grabbed hold of his arm tightly, ignoring the fact that he had just injured himself in the exact spot, then with a sharp flick of the arm, she turned him around to face her.
"Don't walk away from me." Her anger slowly turned to a sad expression. She was still angry with him... but even more... she felt... sorry? Upset? She couldn't figure out what she was feeling.
She let out a deep breath, trying to think of a way to form the sentences she was trying to speak. She let go of his arm and wiped off whatever blood as snuck its way onto her hand on her jeans.
"Thank you. For saving me."
She swallowed, but the stubborn clump stayed in her throat. "Please..." She bit her lip. "Please don't walk away from me again. There...I... We've been through a lot of shit. Wars, heart break, turning human... giant fucking spiders... for once... Just for once! Can you please just... listen to me? Stop trying to walk away from everything. For once, please just shut up... and listen."
She frowned, not sure if she had said too much, but damn it... she had things she finally wanted to say, and she needed him to listen.

"And YOU don't know anything about ME, so shut up!" Kaige yelled angrily over his shoulder, picking up his face. He didn't want her to follow him, but he knew well enough she would. And sure enough, he could hear her coming after him just a few seconds later. "Great," he muttered under his breath, adding in a few choice words that weren't so friendly. He had been fine just moments before, but something snapped inside. He was unsure of what caused it, but he didn't want to stick around for idle chat anymore, nor did he want to see Salena. He wanted to go home and be alone. That sounded good to him.
He felt a slight jolt of pain when she grabbed his arm, which was probably a bad idea on her end. This only irritated him further. "Don't... touch... me," he said slowly, narrowing his eyes. Anger was clearly visible in his expression and voice. "I'm starting to regret it," he said as he turned around to continue walking forward. "I don't want to listen to you. I've listened to enough of your bullshit. I don't want to hear anymore of it! Yeah, I might be an asshole and all that, but you're not exactly Miss Perfect. What MORE could you POSSIBLY have left to say?" He was aware that he was being a little unfair, but he really didn't care at that point. He was just fed up. Like always.
"Take what you have to say and tell it to someone who cares," he said, starting to walk away once more. He doubted she had anything new to say, and even if she did, he wasn't sticking around. He just wanted to leave and disappear. Unfortunately for him, that wasn't possible. He shook his head and laughed without any feeling as he kept moving forward. "Because honestly, I don't."

((This post rated PG17 for language =P ))
Salena stood back, her eyes fixated angrily on Kaige. She had expected his reaction... but she was hoping for something a bit more civil. Anger swelled within her... She didn't deserve this. She had hated herself her entire life. She had constantly blamed herself for everything that went wrong. But this time, she knew that she just didn't deserve this.
"Maybe the time for talk has passed..." She spoke softly. What she had felt just moments before had turned into total rage. She held herself back as long as she could, watching him walk away. He wasn't the same as before. He was worse. Way worse.
She looked down at the crushed grass and twigs beneath her feet. Nothing could distract her from her rage of emotions. For once in her life, she felt pissed. Truly pissed. She squeezed her fingers into a fist. Only seconds before, she had wanted to kiss him. Now she just wanted to pulverize him.
"You are a complete and total ass." She spat at him from afar.
It wasn't enough to insult him. It wasn't enough to just... be angry with him. She wanted to take all the rage she had felt over the years on him. The time to stand around like some lost fucking puppy was over.
"You don't get it. You never do. And you never will. Whoever you once were died along time ago. I should have let you rot. All this time I thought it was me with the problems! But you didn't just fuck up my life. You plagued Kali's life with your horrendous ass as well. You wont quit until everyone is totally fucking pissed off at you, will you?! That truly is your only purpose in life, hm? To make sure that everyone completely hates themselves."
She took a long, deep breath.
"Well enough is enough of this! Get over yourself. Maybe if you weren't such a total ass, you could be living in peace will Kali in the afterlife. But you are an ass. And you always will be."

Kaige laughed loudly, clearly not phased by what she had said. "Oooh, is that supposed to offend me? Is that supposed to hurt my feelings?" he called over his shoulder, continuing to walk on, but slowing down some. "I mean, really.... you think that's going to bother me?" He laughed again and shook his head. "You're getting nowhere, honey," he said, this time having stopped walking. He turned around and began to head back, seeming rather calm unlike before. "I know I'm not the nicest thing around. In fact, you also know it, although you deny it in that pretty little head of yours. You'd like to think there was some sort of good in me somewhere, but you know it's hopeless." He crossed his arms over his chest, blood still trickling down from his wound. "But here you stand. And what for?"
He looked at her questionably, his expression void of anything. His gray eyes appeared dull, but there was something hidden within them. "I didn't 'plague' Kali's life, hon. Me and her actually had a fairly decent time together. I didn't fuck up your life, Shinrin... that was all you. Maybe if you weren't so weak and vulnerable, you never would have been 'kidnapped', or so you say. We probably, no, we would of still been together. But no, you went off and 'disappeared' like magic and then came back expecting me to be all over you again. You didn't do that once, oh no. You did it, what was it, twice?" A scowl began to form across his lips, the only sign of life on his face. "You say I don't get it? You don't get it and you never will. I used to be alright until you stepped into my life, and then you were gone for no real reason. And then you kept coming back again and again." It was a rare occurrence when Kaige actually spoke of how he felt. He was usually one to keep everything locked up inside, but this time it was different.
"You say I'm so fucking terrible, well, I did love you. I did go looking for you. I did wait around, but after awhile, it was kind of obvious you weren't coming back, so sue me for trying to move on. And then you did come back. What the fuck was I supposed to do then? Do you have any idea of badly that messed with my head? Yeah, it may have seemed like I didn't give a shit, but you weren't in my head." He paused for a moment and tore his gaze away, looking off into the distance. There was something in his eyes, but it was hard to tell. Hurt? Sadness? Pain? It could of been a mixture of the three. His heart was beating loudly and almost visibly against his chest. He took a breath and shook his head again, a lock of hair falling across his face.
"Yeah, it's my job to make everyone hate themselves. You're totally right." His voice was full of sarcasm as he brought his gray eyes back to hers. "You didn't exactly make it any better for me. I had all that shit happen to me and then you come in and things seem fine, then you just go like everyone else." He half laughed, though there was no emotion behind it. "I did love you. Might of had a stupid way of showing it, but oh yeah, I did. And it might not of seemed like it, but you really fucking hurt me." He shrugged and glanced sideways. "Shit happens, I guess. I got over myself a long time ago. Maybe you need to get over yourself." He looked back to her and smiled strangely. "Maybe if you hadn't of messed up, you and me would be happily dead. But no, that's not the case. We're stuck here ready to rip out each others throats." He shrugged again and slid his hands into his pockets. "If I'm such an ass, you know your welcome to leave. You don't have to talk to me. You don't have to see me. But you're not Miss Perfect either." He took a deep breath, exhaled, and looked back at her. "Oh well, I guess. We all have our vices."

Salena rose her hand, eyes red and watery. It trembled, wanting desperately to come in contact with Kaige's face. Instead, she slowly lowered it, trying to bat away the tears with her dampened eyelashes.
She looked down at the grass, watching it ripple in the light wind that wound its way around the trees. For the first time, she realized how chilly it was, or maybe it was just her imagination. Still, she shivered each time the wind changed direction. Her anger quickly subsided into sadness.
"I... hated myself for hurting you. I cursed my very life... all that I was. At the time, I was weak... I hid among the bushes in fear. The beings that took me away from you... they were my own family. It is because of this blood that runs through me veins that I wanted so badly to destroy my own life..."
She took a deep, shaky breath. "Your life was always worth more than mine. I would have died a thousand deaths if it meant living just one life with you! You think I thought myself as perfect? No... I've never known a more selfish, weak wolf... but for just a little while, you made me feel... important. If I could go back in time and stand up to my sisters, I would! I would do all that I could to stop them from taking me away from you!"
She let out a quick, raspy breath. Her voice cracked, and any strength that was seen in her before seemed to simply vanish in an instant.
"I remember praying... praying that you would come after me. That you would find me... but..." She bit her lip. "You never came."
Salena quickly turned away, not able to face him any longer. "I guess... I just wasn't worth chasing after..."

Kaige wasn't sure how she would react. He hadn't seen her anger coming before and he didn't know if it would continue on after all that he had said. He honestly hadn't planned on revealing how he had felt about things. It all just sort of slipped out and it was too late to take anything back. He watched as she raised her hand and briefly wondered if she would hit him. He wouldn't care if she did - he could easily block it out, and really... how bad could it be? "Yeah, I know," he said after a moment. "I've heard it all before." He wasn't trying to sound like an ass, but with him, people usually took what he said the wrong way. Maybe he needed to word it better, but he couldn't come up with a nice way of saying it.
"Never said that you said you were perfect, or that you thought you were perfect." He shrugged, his voice flat. "You were just making me out to be the bad guy and I just wanted you to know that you weren't that good yourself, but I'm sure you already know that." He took a step back, snapping some twigs beneath his boots, and looked down to his wounded arm. The blood had finally stopped trickling out, but there was still dirt and pieces of bark stuck inside. "Oh well," he muttered as he brought a hand up to scratch his head, making his hair look even more tangled and ruined. "Whatever. It's whatever," he said, looking passed her. "What's done is done. You did what you did, I did what I did. It's all in the past and we can't change anything about it." He shrugged again and shook his head. "I'm too old for this crap."
In a way, it was true. He was considerably older than everyone else he had come across, but they didn't know that. He looked like a twenty some odd year old man, but he was much older than that and he was beginning to feel it. It showed in his eyes and it showed in his face along with something else. Pain? Sadness? It was hard to tell with him. He was usually good at masking his feelings, but they were slowly starting to unfold. [/blockquote]

Salena stood sadly. She hadn't even heard most of his words. None of it seemed to matter anymore. Kaige was Kaige. Not the Kaige she remembered when they were together, but the Kaige she had created because she was too weak to fight for herself. It made sense that he wouldn't try to find her... after all, no matter what Shinrin was to him, he was the alpha at the time. He had a duty to fulfill to his pack.
Was it wrong for her to feel that those duties should have included his own mate? The nights of her sister's reign over her soul were the most terrifying experiences of her life. She had felt torture, had become a tool... Mind controlled, abused... But she had never forgotten Kaige. It was his memory that kept her strong, and eventually allowed to her over power the leader of her evil siblings.
But he never came after her. Never looked. Did he ever truly care? She had thought he did, but now... she wasn't so sure. She let her arms drop to her side. The urge to run away was strong. She just wanted to turn and keep walking. How far she would go, she wasn't sure. Maybe to the moon. But she was determined to prove that she would never walk away from Kaige again. If he left, it was his own decision, not hers.
"You gotta do what you gotta do..."

"Keep thinking that I didn't," Kaige spoke up after awhile, his expression slightly irritated. "But I did look. I told you I did. There's only so much I could have done. I wasn't superman. I'm still not superman and I never will be." He took a step back from her and turned around to leave. He was tired of being made out as the bad guy. He had had enough of that throughout the many years he had been on this planet, whether it be when he was a wolf or in his current state as a human. "Can't please everyone." His words were so quiet, it was hard to hear them and it seemed like he was talking more-so to himself than Salena. He stood there for awhile, still as a statue, staring at the ground without blinking. He was lost in a whirlwind of thoughts, though he wished he could just stop and forget about somethings and permanently erase them from his memory. A swift wind blew through the forest then, sweeping his tangled hair across his face and interrupting him from his thoughts. He looked down to his arm, forgetting he had an injury there, then over his shoulder to Salena. "I have to go... take care of this... before something else decides to make a meal out of you," he muttered, his words slow. He glanced forward again, but something was different. He seemed... conflicted. What he was troubled over was a mystery. Instead of walking forward to leave like he had planned on, he turned around so that he was facing her again. There was a few feet between them, but he cleared that within a second. His eyes were trained on her and his expression was still troubled. He was silent, as was the forest surrounding them, and then he did the unexpected. He kissed her. [/blockquote]

Salena's expression dropped to the ground as he turned away from her. She felt... empty. Not necessarily lonely. She had been used to that feeling. But it was as if everything she cared about... the last bit that had been keeping her alive all these years, was leaving her. She could feel the life being slowly sucked away from her as she imagined him walking off. She was too scared to look up, too afraid to watch him leave.
He heart beat slower... slower... until it finally seemed to stop. Her breath calmed until she found herself no longer breathing. Frozen in time... the wind blew her hair, but she no longer felt it. She knew she wasn't dying, not yet. But for a slight moment, she felt... nothing. No emotions, no life. Until finally, slowly, she lifted her head.
Her eyes widened, and she stood completely shocked to find Kaige inches away from her face. And then-
He kissed her?
What the hell?
She felt his warm lips upon hers, and quickly found a breath before their lips were locked together. She closed her eyes. Was this happening? She found herself completely lost in the kiss. She felt a drop of water trickle down her cheek, realizing it had been her own tear. Then surely, a second tear slid down her smooth complextion.
By instinct, she wanted to stop and ask him why he was kissing her. She had such a curious mind. After all, hadn't he just mentioned that he was leaving? Wasn't he just seconds ago furious with her? So then why was he standing there, kissing her? She wanted to ask, she wanted to know... but a second part of her kept her quiet. She didn't want to say anything. She didn't want to screw this up. She just wanted to stay in that moment, forever...
But there was something that just wasn't right. She reached up and gently put her hand on his cheek. She could feel his facial muscles flex while they kissed... Then she lightly pushed his face away from hers, and broke the kiss. When she did, she let in a soft breath, her hand still on his face. Her eyes were whelled up with tears that threatened to drop at any moment.
She tried to swallow, but failed miserably. A hoarse, dry sputter came out of her lips. "Yo...you looked for me?"
And just like that, the tears began to fall like a tidal wave. She quickly withdrew her hand and looked away from him. She didn't want him to see her like this. The truth was... She now hated herself more than ever. How could she have been so stupid? How could she think that he didn't care, that he wouldn't even look for her. It must have hurt him so bad... to not be able to find her, and then she she returned, he had to learn that she had been kidnapped and abused- he must have eaten himself up for that. She wondered if he had felt like it had been his fault... Salena felt like an ass.
"I-" She gasped through her tears. "I'm so sorry!"
She had said sorry multiple times. She had said sorry for disapearing, even when it wasn't her fault. She had said sorry for everything... she had worn out the word sorry. But before, she had said sorry just so that he might forgive her, so that she might have had another chance with him.
This time, it was different. She was genuinly sorry. Sorry for the pain she caused him... sorry that he had to feel that way. She felt as if a thirteen foot metal pole was jabbed through her heart... Kaige had loved her. Because of that, he had suffered... his pain was no easier to bare than hers had been. And she was so sorry. She wanted to make up for it... she wanted to go back in time and fix everything, but now, all she could do was cry, realizing how much hurt Kaige must have been in... She had been selfish, worrying about her own pain...
And now she felt sick to her stomach.

What had just happened wasn't planned, but then again, were crazy things like that ever planned? Kaige honestly had no idea why he did that. It seemed right, but at the same time, it seemed wrong. It didn't feel wrong, but it also didn't feel right. Maybe he was just confused. There was too much happening in a small amount of time and maybe it was getting to him. One minute they were fine and civil, and the next they were ready to rip each others throats out. And now... this. What the hell was he thinking? He probably wasn't at all.
"Sorry," he muttered awkwardly, raising a hand to the back of his head. His gray eyed gaze dropped to the ground and his hand fell back down to his side as he took a couple of steps back to make some space between them. "I don't know why I did that." He shrugged, keeping his gaze on the ground. He was completely unaware that the water works were in gear. He heard her say something, but it took him a moment to register what it was. He was half there, half in his own world. "Well, yeah," he said after a moment. "Why wouldn't..." His words came to a stop when he looked up and saw the tears. He felt more confused now than ever.
"I don't... understand?" His words were slow and the confusion showed. "I don't think I'm following you. You've said you're sorry a million times," he said as he shoved his hands in his pockets, both looking and feeling out of place. "What could you possibly be sorry about this time? I got the memo awhile ago. You're sorry. You don't have to... keep saying it," he said, unconsciously taking a step back. "But yeah... you weren't the first one to leave me. You weren't the first one I went looking for. It's been done before, but whatever." He shrugged, briefly thinking back to Velia and how she had left him. He shook his head to himself - there was no time to think about that.
"There was only so much I could do." His expression cleared, the confusion no longer evident in his eyes. He exhaled slowly, letting his gaze wander over the surrounding area. It may have happened years and years ago, but his memory was better than most. He could remember things like they had just happened yesterday, though there were some things that still haunted him to this day he wished would be gone. "I couldn't really leave to go off on some wild goose chase trying to find you without risking losing everything I had just gained. I did what I could and came up empty-handed." His gaze went back to her and he frowned, though it wasn't out of irritation or anything of the sort. It was just a natural thing with him. He hadn't smiled in a long, long time.
"So," he said, rocking back on the balls of his feet, "I just had to get over it." He shrugged like it had been nothing, like it was an easy thing to accomplish. "Kind of used to losing someone or having someone leave, so it wasn't terrible, I guess." He was lying, but only slightly. It had been hard, but at the same time, not as hard as he thought it would've been. That still didn't mean it was easy. "When you've been through what I've been through and put up with things that I've put up with, you just learn to live with it. That's why I don't rely on anyone. That's why I'm not one of those people that can trust anybody and everybody. That's why I'm not very open. I guess that's why I am who I am." He shrugged again and smiled, although there was no realness to it.
"But whatever. It's fine. It's all done and over with. It's behind us. There's nothing we can do about it, so just stop." He pulled his hands out of his pocket and looked down to his injury, running a few fingers across the wound that had finally stopped bleeding. "Stop apologizing and stop crying, alright?" He was brushing his arm off, but looking at her then. "It's pretty obvious neither of us are going anywhere anytime soon. Even if we did take separate paths, I'm sure we'd end up running into each other again. It's happened before, hasn't it? No sense in getting worked up over everything anymore. We might as well try and make things alright between us." That could have been taken a couple of different ways. Which way he meant it, he wasn't clear on. [/blockquote]

Salena couldn't even bear to look at him. Make things alright between them? What did that even mean? Would that ever even be possible? She couldn't just... be there. She was feeling a rush of emotions, and she was feeling it now. What was she supposed to say? 'Apology accepted about the whole akward kiss thing. See ya later?'
And that was another thing... why had he kissed her? She didn't deserve it. She never deserved any of it. She knew it, he knew it, so why had he done it? To simply fuck with her emotions? Or had he meant it? Was it his way of saying he still cared? Or was it more of a test to see if he still felt anything?
Might as well try and make things alright between us... how the fuck could that happen? Most of the time, Kaige just wanted to kill her, and she just wanted to beg him to take her back. She was extremly emotional, while he showed very little emotion at all. She spent so much time trying to figure out what he was trying to say, what he was feeling... but it all just made her all the more confused.
One thing she wasn't confused about anymore, was that she definately still loved Kaige. Even through his anger, his stubborness, and his agressiveness, she still loved him for him. She understood now just why he had been so angry with her. She finally fucking understood. But did it make even one cent of a difference? She didn't want it to. She almost didn't want to be with him anymore. She had been selfish. Maybe it was time to let him go. To let him live his life, and to let him be with someone he actually wanted to be with.
She kept her eyes away from him, a depressing look on her face. "What does that even mean Kaige?" She asked, being completely honest with him. "Just get the hate over with, so we don't have to be afraid to bump into one another again? To just... agree to be just nothing more than aquaintences, if even that? I'm sorry. I can't do that. I...still love you Kaige. A lot. But I don't want to fuck up your life anymore."
She looked down at the ground. "Say the word, and I'll be gone... I'll live else where. You wont have to worry about me anymore."
A tear slid down her cheek. Damn those eyes of hers. Human eyes leaked so much easier than wolf eyes did.
A jolt of something... maybe courage? Maybe stupidity... flickered in her heart, and she finally worked up the courage to look at him. "Or... ask me to stay." She looked at him long and hard, before finally blinking and looked out past the glittering trees. She had just realized that they were still standing in the spider's web. Hopefully another one wouldn't be coming along anytime soon.
"It's... up to you Kaige." She chuckled emotionlessly. "I'll do whatever you say."

The silence was strange. Kaige knew that half of what he had said made no sense. They were just words thrown together for pointless rambling. Usually, he welcomed the silence, but it was making him antsy at the moment; he wasn't sure why. There was something different about it this time, something he couldn't really figure out. Maybe it was because he was anticipating what Salena was going to say. Was she going to break down again, or was she going to rip his head off? He wondered what was going on in her head, though he could easily go in and see for himself, but he was done with all of that. People's thoughts were their own business. Besides, she was probably wondering what was going on in his and she didn't have the ability to do what he could. How fair was that?
"I don't really know what it means," he said, shaking himself from his thoughts as he heard her speak. "But there's really no point in being pissed off with one another. What happened, happened awhile ago. We can't change the past. Being mad at each other isn't going to magically make everything disappear." It was true after all and it was all becoming clear to him now. "I shouldn't of acted like a spoiled little brat anytime you showed up. I should've been mature and civil about it, but me being me, I was an idiot. I can't really take back anything that I've said or done, but I can try to be better because acting like a child isn't going to get me what I want."
With a heavy sigh, he lowered himself to the ground and sat, legs sprawled out in front of him. He knew he needed to grow up, but for some reason it was hard for him. He needed to get over that. Hearing her say that she lived loved him caused his expression to twist and change. He looked conflicted again. He found himself feeling both a little sad and a little bad. Despite the fact that he was a complete asshole and had said many unfavorable things, and despite the fact that many years had gone by, she still loved him. He didn't understand. "Why would you still love me? Especially since I've been nothing but a jackass to you. I don't get it."
He pulled his legs up, bringing his knees to his chest and laughed, though it was empty. "You really think my life could get anymore messed up?" he asked, turning his gaze toward her. "Honestly? What else can I lose? There's nothing left to fuck up. I lost my family ages ago. I lost any friends and those that I loved ages ago. I have nothing anymore." He dropped his gaze to his knees and frowned. "I have nothing." Saying those words out loud made him realize how much of a waste of space he was. He had driven everyone away by being a bitter, stubborn, hateful tool. He took out his problems on everyone else, causing them to leave. Solitude was something he once enjoyed, or so he thought. He was just now beginning to realize how lonely he really was and it showed.
He was silent for the longest time, just staring at his knees, a mix of sadness and irritation in his expression. He took a deep breath and shook his head, covering his face with both his hands. "I am a complete and total moron," he said, his words muffled. He braced his elbows on his knees, keeping his face covered, and stayed like that for a moment. "Why do I have to make that decision for you?" he asked, moving his hands up to his tangled hair. "If you want to go, go. If you want to stay, stay. I'm not telling you what to do - you do what you want to do." He seemed calm in some weird way, but something still lingered. Pain, regret, confusion. It was all mixed together in his eyes.
