::Shamans of Camauren::
Shamans play an important part of life in Camauren. The only problem is, their duties have been mostly forgotten, which has dramatically changed life in Camauren cities.
Each of the main seven cities in Camauren have one shaman. The shaman's original purpose was to protect the balance of nature, power, and life. These were the original guardians, brought together to keep things in order. Only with the influence of these shamans was the magic in Camauren able to flourish, and was evil kept at bay.
The shamans each summoned animal guardians to protect the cities from attackers. Most of the guardians are still alive to this day, and continue to protect, in secret, life in those cities. (To read more about animal guardians, read This Thread)
Since the sudden disappearance in shamans, demons have become more and more numerous, animal guardians have turned wild, magic seems to be growing unstable, and the land itself has begun slowly falling apart. That isn't to say that the shamans no longer exist, they are simply in hiding, or forgotten.

What are the requirements for being a shaman?
Most of the time, a shaman is female. However, on occasion, a male is chosen as shaman. Usually, however, a male is only chosen as a shaman if they become an apprentice to the previous shaman. A shaman also must be, for the most part, human, and share a sense of nature and strength.
What happens if the shaman dies?
While a shaman is in power, they may take an apprentice, which will take power as the next shaman after the previous one passes. This is only possible because of the "shaman's bond"(to read more about bonds and how they work, read This Thread). In passing, all of the shaman powers will be transferred to the apprentice.
If a shaman has not chosen an apprentice, the shaman's aura(powers, abilities, knowledge, etc) will makes its own decision on who should be the next shaman (usually somebody with extreme caring/pure heart, or in some cases, just the opposite) and will settle into a newborn baby. In this case, some shamans life their whole life unknowing of what they can do, and as they pass, the shaman's aura will pick a new host.
What magic/abilities to shamans have?
Shamans have a refined sense of nature, strength, and life, which helps them to keep check on the balance in Camauren. They also have complete access to the inner world, (read This Thread for more info on the inner world) as well as control over the animal guardians of their cities. Each city's shaman specializes in one particular element, but also have powers over other elements, as well as other abilities.
City Shaman Element List:
Taikai Ueki shaman's elements: Life and growth
Riku Haru shaman's elements: Change and love
Shikon Kentsume shaman's elements: Wind and animal
Nain Taiyou shaman's elements: Metals and energy
Kagirinai Arashi shaman's elements: Lightning and influence
Shifuto Hiru shaman's elements: Fire and strength
Shifuto Aisu shaman's elements: Water and stability
Can there be more than two shamans in one city?
While there were originally only seven shamans, one for each city, there have been rare circumstances in which there were others as well. On occasion, if the shaman's aura picks an unborn child, and that child is born with a twin, there is a chance that the shaman powers could be split into both children. Another situation is false shamans. Though it is currently unknown how these false shamans are created, they have most, if not all, of the same abilities most shamans have. Another rarity happened once in Shifuto Aisu, when two sisters were born, both as shamans, though this is thought to have occurred due to the separation between Shifuto Aisu and Shifuto Hiru.
What are the differences between a true shaman, and a false shaman?
A false shaman was not born a shaman, neither were they trained as an apprentice before. While they have all the same powers and abilities as a regular shaman, their abilities come with a price. False shamans feel the same pain they inflict on another human. This doesn't mean that if they kill someone, they will die also, but it does mean that whatever pain they put someone through, they will feel also. This also means that if a false shaman harms someone, and that victim feels pain for the rest of their life, they will also feel that pain.
False shamans also lack the natural instincts and feelings of a true shaman. They have a harder time performing bonding rituals, sensing danger, and are incapable of fully controlling a guardian. They are often too emotional or unbalanced to perform the duties of a shaman, and too often wind up getting the city into even more trouble.
Is there a ceremony that an apprentice goes through when becoming shaman?
Most of the time, yes. However, different cities perform the ceremonies differently. In Shifuto Aisu, the ceremony is filled of prayer and praises to and for the shaman. In Shifuto Hiru, a celebration, complete with fire works, dance, and music is the shaman's ceremony. In Shikon Kentsume, the shaman celebrates his/her ceremony by taking a crystal from the guardian's cavern. It varies in every city! (However, a few cities, such as Kagirinai Arashi and Taikai Ueki refuse to hold ceremonies for the shamans)
What Shamans exist today?
There is only one true shaman known today, Sahara Nickshaw of Shifuto Hiru. Krystine of Shifuto Aisu would be an example of a false shaman. Two other, twin shamans are expected to be revealed soon and (spoiler) will be coming from Shikon Kentsume.
